Hi folks.
Just a quick question:
Had my eye on a bravo for years but still not found one up to spec.
Now two have come up.
Both similar in milage and quality.
Ones the 1.6 petrol the other is the 1.9 diesel.
Any reccomendations on which one i should go for??
Thanks

reliable engine on 1.9. better fuel economy., better tuning ability, longer lasting engine if treated well :)

downside, diesel noise, but as long as it is kept uptogether it will be fine.

I have had both the 1.6 and the 1.9JTD and the JTD will eat the 1.6 alive! its much faster and nicer vehicle.

The 1.6 have massive gearbox problems, i know way to many people who had similar issues, and well when i had my 1.6 it was luckly under warrenty however i ended up with 3new gearboxes out of the warrenty, and after that i still had to put a new box in to be able to sell as the speedo cog then went!!

My 1.9JTD was reliable as hell! just ensure to change the plugs regular or youll end up melting it into the head as that was one issue i had with the JTD, that and the diesil line split other than that it was spot on :D

My only problem with the JTD is its only tuneable to 157HP or around there due to the fuel rail. But then again if your buying for speed, then get a HGT or a 20VT conversion!

Hope that helps

dont forget if you buy the later jtd 100 model, 2001 onward (i think) then the tax is only £112 per year. i think the 1.6 is £180

my jtd does about 38mpg knocking around and nearly 60mpg on a run. a 1.6 might get about 40ish mpg on a run. so big difference there plus as mentioned the diesels are pretty solid had mine 2 years and ive needed a new alternator and rocker gasket

easy choice for me too.... JTD every time!

1.6 also has injector problems.

now the JTD isn't w/out fault but the engine will keep going and going and going if serviced every 6,000miles.

Bought mine with 46,000 miles & sold it to James (above) with about 98,000 miles a couple of years later..... I LOVED IT.... but bought a 20vt bravo cos 156bhp wasn't enough I thought.

here is a 0-60 video of a JTD with a 136bhp Angel Tuning remap & a BMC pannel filter... thats it!

you will see this is with 76,000 miles on the clock and still the original clutch!

Get the 1.6, its not a diesel and thats the important thing ;)

The early ones had injector issues, there are no gearbox issues (just bad drivers) and the best bit is its got no MAF to go wrong.
