Hi

Stuck in traffic this (hot) weekend, the temperature gauge climbed to red, without the fan coming on.

No airlock, heater works, have tapped fascia ( as suggested in previous posts) but no joy.

I can't see any sensor or wires coming from the radiator. Does the 1.2 have a temperature switch? The blue wire from the fan goes to battery (+) by the fuse (OK). The other wire seems to go to a red relay (?). Mr Haynes disagrees!

I'm stumped. Can anyone help!?

I had the same prob with my old 80sx. I could not suss it out at all as there is no seperate switch on the fan. I changed fans, checked wiring the lot but still could not suss it. Ended up always turning the blowers on full and on full heat. Beleie me - not good fun stuck on a motorway in scorching weather.
Good luck

Happened to me recently in my hlx, i had to get an ellectrician to look at it, it was a fried swicth apparently, and he re-wired a wiring loom through the passenger footwell.

re fan switch

test the switch, it is fitted at the bottom left of radiator

fan switch

No, just had a look at mine, not on the rad at all. might be controlled by the ecu, everything else seems to be. You could check the fan motor by connecting direct to battery

i think the engine coolant temp sensor controls it, number 5 on the pic, i had probs with mine coming on when cold and changed it on mine (its a 1.8) and it sorted the problem.
