My Bravo has had trouble with speedo not working shortly after i bought it. It has had a gear box change and it turnes out the sensore for the speedo that connects to the gear box is not working properly.

I have had a mechanic out to sort it but i think he is a cow boy and doesnt know what he is doing as it has stopped agian.

Has any body got any clues on how to get it fixed?

Thanks...

No it had a different gear box put in before i bought it! so the parts are different.

have you thought about the possiblity that the problem isnt at the gearbox? this problem is very common on all bravo/as and it usually due to the wiring connectors behind the dials. if you check on www.fiatboo.co.uk there is a guide for repairing it.

the problem is more than likely the fact the sender has come out of the box.. if you look down the back of the engine and pull at the wires you may find one is loose. then look at the mount at the back of the engine and run your hand up and you will feel the thread to screw it back onto :)

The problem is defenitly the sensore as it is not even connected now! I know where it is, but the problem is that the car had a different gear box put into it before i bought it, second hand gearbox.

So the sensore from the bravo is different of that, that fits the gearbox, therefore leaving me with no speedo.

The sensore has no way of holding itself on the gearbox for the drive to go around. Thinking of makibg some sort of strap for the gear box holding the sensore in place....?

Looks like speaking from experience there Andy :D

What gearbox have you put in then if it aint a Bravo box? The punto box has the same sensor

haha just a bit Wim, just a bit :D

Aussie

the fact a new box has been put in shouldnt stop the speedo working or fitting unless its been butchered in some shape or form mate. the boxes that fit the 1.2 are pretty generic in all honesty and all accept the same speedo sensor for the box end. the fact you may not be able to attach it is due to it being a pain in the ars* in all honesty, as the rear engine mopunt gets in the way and becomes very restrictive... the best bet would be to have a good go at re attaching it, or see if you can get me a good pic of the connection on the box, and then one of the gearbox as best as poss.

the strap idea sounds polausable to me, but the fixing could be problematic imo. what box did they use as a replacement?
