Brillaint thanks, guys.

Charger would have been cheaper and you'll need one anyway.....

I'm a bit suspect about the condition of the old battery, to be fair. Once we're up in Rosedale Abbey on a bank holiday weekend, bearing in mind we'll need the car if we go up on our motorbikes, if the battery doesn't charge properly then we're stuck. But a C-Tek looks like a good way of keeping the car on charge especially in winter.

By the way, you guys having the expertise that you do, riddle me this. Must you disconnect the black lead every time you put the car on charge or can you just clip it on anywhere on the system that's "further" from the negative terminal than the stop/start module?

Thanks

Some ctek units come with a special fly lead on the 500 I would go live to live and neg to the chassis leg with a bit of diy drop the sealed plug through the lower front grill and cable tie it. Then no need to lift the bonnet to charge ;-)

Personally i reckon a ctek would revive your battery, they're a great bit of kit. Mine brought a battery that hadn't done anything for 6 months or so to life and which was a fair few years old.

The new battery arrived yesterday.

They didn't have any of the Varta D53 EFB in stock so they sent the more expensive and better specced Varta D52 AGM instead.

Bloody hell, it's a heavy piece of kit!

Let's hope when it goes in the Fiat on Saturday that all is well.

Well, it's in - I followed your instructions and fitted the new battery. And she started first turn of the key.

No flashing odometer, no Stop/Start warning light, all looks as it should. Brilliant!

Just one thing I did notice was that when the right hand indicator is on, the two warning lights above the repeater light on the dash (the engine management light and temperature warning light), as well as the left indicator repeater glow/flash dimly in time with the indicators. Is this a question of "they all do that, sir!" or is this indicative of another problem?

Cheers

J
