Hi all,
I've recently bought a 08 scudo LWB combi which had previously been used to transport young offenders. The sliding doors cannot be opened from the inside , the handles don't even move, does anybody know if I can remedy this myself (and how) or is it a main dealer fix?

Cheers

Both sliding door handles have been disabled. You should have a security key for the added lock in each sliding door, check your key ring and look in the cupboard see if there is a hook with keys on it. I disabled these added locks and purchased s/h handle units to put things back to original. Get back to me if you need more help.

If I were to need permanent disablement of internal door handles with a simple fix, just disconnect the actuating rod from the handle. But I would severely frown upon anyone doing this from a safety view, if the passengers were trapped inside and unable to open the doors the consequence of a fire could be horrendous! Prison and Probation services might think they are above these basic safety issues.

Take the panel off inside the door to reveal workings. Work the inside handle and see if any "metal coat hanger" colour & size rods actuate. My guess is that the rods been dropped out and allowed to hang loose, or worse case scenario been removed altogether. If its still in there simples, just push the bent hook on the end back into the handle mech, there will be a nylon clip that pushes onto the rod to keep it in place. If its not there raid HMV's wardrobe for metal coat-hangers, cut and shape to length. Job done!

When you take out the inner handle assembly you will find its been disabled by virtue of the piece that pushes against the operating lever being sawed off and the handle fixed solid by two screws. Either you find the security keys and use them in the new lock or you get two secondhand units.

Not child locks, the converter has added a round security lock that actuated a rod that pulls the top of the rod in the handle assembly. Without a key, the prisoners couldn't get out as there are security bulkheads at the front and behind the back seats. Like a mini prison on wheels.

Sounds a little like the door locking on my Taxi that comes on when in motion or the brakes are applied. It has a transducer that performs the same as your round security lock. With access to its rear could you not just remove the rod to the lock, or manouver the lock to be in off postition? I am having troubles with mine...it looks as if I may have soon to source a complete unit...not a clue where from presently.

Cheers for the replies, i've got a key that fits in the locks that have been fitted midway along the doors but it doesnt enable the door handles (unless Im doing it wrong) i'll be taking the panel off later to have a look. I am worried that my passengers cant get out unless I open the door from the outside.
I'll post up again once ive opened it up

hi
put the key in and turn it, the door will unlock and can then be pushed back with the handle, which has been disabled for opening but can be used to push the door back. You can leave the key in the lock, it won't fall out, mind a punter might pocket it. Best to do what I did and put it back to as it left the factory. Take out the trim and bits of plastic and all will be revealed.

Well I've had the panel off and they have snapped the bit off the handle that opens the lock. I have the key that works in place of it but I' d prefer to get it back to original spec. I use the van for surfing and mountain biking. Does anybody know the part number for the handles ? I've located one on eBay so that will do for now.

hi
part numbers are on the plastic, a '07 onwards expert, despatch or scudo will fit, make sure you get the side you want one marked G is left, the right one is marked with a D, both of mine were peugeot parts. Ask sellers to check your numbers. I paid £20 each for mine inc postage. I also took out the security bulkheads, do you have the eberspacher 9kw aircon system behind the front seats?

Cheers for the info, I'll get onto the local dealer.
The van has air con (on the dash)but nothing behind the front seats.
