Calling all Ducato techies. I have an 07 Autotrail Cheyenne with 22k and during the last 3-5k I have been getting an intermittent 'misfire' when cruising at 50-60mph. Idle is OK at 900rpm and also when accelerating which I gather are situations when the EGR does not operate. I had the engine re-mapped in 2015 up to 160 from 130bhp by Quantum and noticed the exhaust tailpipe getting very sooty when the current problem occurred. I suspect there may be sooty deposits in the EGR valve adding to the problem. After reading up about the EGR circuit in the Ducato Training Course Manual I disconnected the electrical supply to the EGR solenoid valve and took the vehicle for a 30 mile run during which time there was no evidence of a problem. That was plan A. After looking at other posts in the Fiat Forum I tried plan B which was to blank off the brake vacuum supply to the EGR solenoid valve but reconnect the electrical supply. Plan B did not work! The misfiring returned so I am back with Plan A. I will consult Fiat Professional next week but in the meantime have any members experienced this type of problem and could Plan A damage the ECU?

Have you a misfire or flat spot because misfire will activate mil light have you some diag equipment is the egr solenoid noisy you must have a fault code with misfire?

Thanks for your reply. The misfire did trigger an error P0638 which is listed as Throttle Actuator Control Range/Performance although the actuator seems to be working OK...few oily deposits in the flap area but flap moves easily. In my post I referred to the EGR and had removed the electrical connector to the solenoid which seemed to solve the problem - although as I expect there will be a new error message as a resultof this. As I said, I blanked off the brake vacuum to stop any activity in the solenoid from opening the EGR valve on the engine and reconnected the solenoid connector..then the problem came back...just like 'kangaroo petrol'. So I'll leave the solenoid valve electrical connector off until I can get to see the Fiat people.

Iv known of software update for that code however you’ve had it chipped so you won’t want software updating,If you’ve got the early aluminium type motorised throttle and your getting oil in the pipe look where the electronic part of the throttle is?its at the bottom so the oil seems through butterfly shaft into electrics my money is on the motorised throttle playing up it may work ok now Iv known them to do 30 mile before triggering p0638 you want the plastic type throttle but you’ll need the wire connector too

Your issue will be with the Throttle body as mine has started doing the same this week after a long trip, the light came on then went out after a few days with the same code generated. My egr has been bypassed so I know its not that. Mine is the 3.0 ltr version.

This issue was covered I think by another member some time ago.
