Hi All

As anybody changed in here attempted to change the Glow plugs on a 2003 Ulysse 2.0 HDI

If so how easy was it ? as I cannot even see them never mind get them out.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Many Thanks

did you ever get a solution to this as im trying to find out how to change the glow plugs on my ulysse?

i changed the glow plugs on mine but the engine was out so it was dead easy !!!
with the engine in you will need go gadget arms a mirror and a lot of patience .
they are right at the back above the exhaust manifold and out of sight
you will have to remove wiper mechanism and the plastic gubbins from above the engine to get down there but even then it will be a challenge
let us know how it goes
good luck :(

I need to change my glow plugs but it sounds a tricky job. What do you think guys - i:confused:s it easier to get the glow plugs out with the engine hot or cold?

ha ha !!!
did mine with engine out and it had been cold/dead for some time they came out no problem :)
with engine in you will need a box of plasters and a good idea of where to find them , if the engine is hot you will need skin grafts afterwards aswell
good luck
let us know how it goes

changed a set of glow plugs in a 54 2.0 hdi ullysse today. heres how i done it. part 1 under bonnet
cold engine, remove pollen filter housing, remove throttle inlet body 3 hex's swing out the way. remove bolt that holds dipstick tube next to egr pipe that goes into side of inlet manifold, bend dipstick tube slightly out the way, remove egr tube flange 2 hex's in side of inlet manifold , (dipstick tube in way of the lower bolt.) follow this tube towards rear of engine and undo bolt that secures this tube to a small bracket. all this above will make sense in a minute,
part 2 under vehicle
. remove entire exhaust from turbo to silencer. remove lower engine stabiliser. swing engine forward and wedge with a small block of wood, remove plastic turbo outlet pipe from turbo, one bolt and a jubilee clip, bolt higher up holding this as well so remove and wedge pipe out the way. remove egr unit from exhaust manifold ,2 nuts, also held by nut on manifold stud. remove this nut on stud and bend tab that attaches this egr to manifold stud. push egr body with tube upwards clearing the way to gain access to plugs. impossible without part 1. i cable tied it from under the bonnet to stop it dropping in the way.

from now onwards access to plugs are ok but lots of aching wrists, scratching of arms , you may need to bend the heat shield attached to steering rack to stop scratchin and slicing bits of skin off your hands. also remove the exhaust sealing ring on turbo as this is compressed wire and bits of this wire sticks out and pricks you.
took me 6 hours. not a diy job if not used to working on cars
auto data repair times state 4 hours.
hope this helps if thinking of doing plugs on yours.
don,t forget to replace all parts in the reverse order if you haven,t already lost the will to live. see yer

Well Done
Sounds like you had a great time , my mate needs his doing do you fancy doing it ???
Seriously you did very well I did'nt think it would be that straight forward :)
How many cuts and scrapes in total ?

lost count, just over a week later and still only got a couple of grazes left ready for the next knuckle scraping job. probably be more straight forward next time now i know how to go about it. first time i spent nearly an hour just looking around it and working out the best way. if your mate lives in the bn 21 22 23 24 area then yeh. see yer
