Hello,

timing belt of my 1991 Fiat Tempra 1.6i.e 8v snapped. Does anyone know whether this engine tends to bend valves? its 8v engine, so i think it may necessarily not..

I found one review on the net:

"Two weeks ago the Timing Belt snapped and was expecting a massive repair bill if it is hit my pistons and valves, however due to a brilliant design by Fiat, the Timing Belt tends not to hit the pistons so I only received a £75 repair bill"

I would appreciate answer from somebody who really knows this. Thaks!

Hello there, I have a Tempra SX 1.6ie 8v from `95 with 140.000 km (159 B9.000 engine code) and two months ago my timing belt snapped at idle. 3 exhaust valves got bent even though the pistons are designed not to hit the valves, but there was a lot of dirt on their heads from the gasoline so I guess that`s the problem. I had to replace all of the exhaust valves, new gaskets set, new distribution set. The timing belt that got snapped was a Gates one with only 10.000 since replacement, I still don`t know what happened, but the new one is a ContiTech like the original. Good Luck !
