Went through my first ever deep flood today at about 15/20 mph or should that be knots?? Anyhoo...... the engine revved its nuts off and virtually all power(torque) went along with severe juddering but I managed not to stall it (y) I'm thinking that I must've soaked my clutch and luckily not also sucked in water through the air intake which was above the water(luckily) .

Is there likely to be any long term damage or did I dodge a bullet on this one?

you will be ok. but lucky the juddering sounds like water being sucked up. but not enough to hydrolock the engine. very close

in the future try more like 5mph, slip the clutch keeping the revs high and movement slow... and aslong as its not too deep you will be ok.

dont worry about your clutch overheating as with all the water washing through it it will be fine.

our town has been on the news this morning (felpham ) one of the worst hit in south .

when driving in deep water always keep to 1st or 2nd gear dependant on water level and car speed etc as your high revs will help prevent the engine from stalling. dont accelerate through the water just maintain a constant with your speed till your are through and you will have many happy days to come, and if your having to drive through water on a regular basis due to major floods i would make sure you do not have a cold air intake that is anywhere below the actual filter.

having the 'original' air feed under the bonnet opening is bad enough as the bow wave is certain to enter through this gap and your just asking for water to be sucked up. try disconnecting it to save any future heartache
