Hi All.

I've just joined the forum to get some thoughts and comments on my dilemma.
I have a Stilo 1.6 which has failed its MOT on the emissions test.
The Lambda and HC readings are all well below the limits, and the CO is just below at idling speed. The car fails the CO test at 3,000 rpm.
Tried the old 'clean out the injectors' fluid but it made no difference.
Took the car to uncle Arnold Clarks to put it on their diagnostics.
The car passed all their tests, their conclusion was that it can only be due to a faulty catalytic converter (just in time for Xmas!)
This happened almost two weeks ago and I am still waiting on my new cat!
I have tried phoning around various Fiat dealers in the UK but nobody stocks them. Am I the only poor sod in the UK that has ever suffered a cat failure?
I've also tried various breakers yards but nothing has turned up. Looks like my cat is coming from Italy (hope they don't quarantine it!). If this is such a rare fault do you think I have a case with Fiat UK for some compensation?
I love my Stilo to bits as its been a brilliant, totally underrated car and has done 83K miles without any problems.

Its a 52 plate and everyone I've spoken to so far has never had to replace or has heard of a knackered cat on a Stilo.

I may take it to another Fiat dealer (not AC's) to get a second opinion.
I also heard that there is a new engine remap available for the ECU which would be a lot cheaper than a new cat.
Anybody else heard about this?

Thought the remap might show the ECU at fault rather than the cat.

Got it checked at uncle Arnolds in the Linoleum capital of Fife (Kirkcaldy to everyone else).

Look like I'll just have to hang on 'till a new cat arrives, car's off the road in the meantime (using the missuses Punto)

Tell me something I don't already know!
Arnolds originally quoted the usual 3 days to obtain a cat, then when I phoned again they said that it was on back order and couldn't give a delivery date! Have Fiat stopped making them now that the new Bravo is on its way?
A bit short sighted of them if they have!

Anyway thanks for the tip T....., I may go back and ask for this test to be carried out (however the man at Arnolds service dept. said that they carried out a cat test to confirm the failure).

To be honest Phil I buy whatever is cheapest (bangers) at the time (normally MOT time:rolleyes: ),I have little care personally for looks/colour etc but I do miss my old mk1 punto, that old thing never let me down once!

Dont you ride your bikes then any more ?

Evening all.

Just thought I'd update things with the cat saga.
Very pleasant woman phoned from Fiat in Italy today (have raised a case number with Fiat direct) to say that she would do her upmost to source a cat from somewhere in Europe. She also said that the suppliers are quoting an estimated delivery of the third week in January!
Me Stilo is going to be an icicle by then!
I'm off to look on Ebay!

Hi all.

Just a quick update. Very nice Italian woman phoned back today to say my cat is on its way and will be with the dealer by Friday 5th!
Looks like I'll get to chuck the Stilo around in the snow after all!
