Stilo Stew

Hi All.
I've just joined the forum to get some thoughts and comments on my dilemma.
I have a Stilo 1.6 which has failed its MOT on the emissions test.
The Lambda and HC readings are all well below the limits, and the CO is just below at idling speed. The car fails the CO test at 3,000 rpm.
Tried the old 'clean out the injectors' fluid but it made no difference.
Took the car to uncle Arnold Clarks to put it on their diagnostics.
The car passed all their tests, their conclusion was that it can only be due to a faulty catalytic converter (just in time for Xmas!)
This happened almost two weeks ago and I am still waiting on my new cat!
I have tried phoning around various Fiat dealers in the UK but nobody stocks them. Am I the only poor sod in the UK that has ever suffered a cat failure?
I've also tried various breakers yards but nothing has turned up. Looks like my cat is coming from Italy (hope they don't quarantine it!). If this is such a rare fault do you think I have a case with Fiat UK for some compensation?
I love my Stilo to bits as its been a brilliant, totally underrated car and has done 83K miles without any problems.
