At last, we got our car remapped - and I have to say, the results are nothing short of spectacular! (y)

The 2006 Stilo Mjet's 150bhp engine is pretty impressive in standard tune, offering both excellent performance and economy. These attributes are retained in the remap, but..........it's a completely different animal now!

In-gear accelaration is nothing short of explosive in every gear right through to sixth - it pulls like a train and just seems to keep on going, endlessley, you very quickly forget it's a diesel.

Overtaking is now a breeze - just a little squeeze of the throttle and awaaaay you go, I can see there's gonna be a few surprised faces as I disappear into the sunset in my little Fiat!

1st gear is basically now redundant, you can start off effectively in 2nd and from a standing start make most other cars look silly.

The upgraded power has of course highlighted some of the limitations of the standard car. The Sporting suspension is now not up to the job around the bends. You have to watch the power round the twisties. I've been told that a new set of uprated shocks/springs will tame the beast and give it handling to match the new power levels.

To summarise, if you have an Mjet 150, get Angel to do the remap, it's simply awesome. You'll not be able to stop smiling. Thanks, Angel!:worship:

Finally, if you're curious to know why I said "finally" at the beginning of my email, it's because Angel were not the first company we tried to do the remap.
I seriously wish we had chosen them first.
We had really bad service from a rival, I think it's probably best not to post the story here, but suffice to say I'm really pi*?#d off at the way we were treated. I truly hope they don't treat all their customers in the same way.

Dave.

sounds good, so whats that beast pumping out now 200bhp? which is bloody impressive from a 1.9 diesel unit, do you know what torque its got? (y)

eibach springs did miracles for my stilo, ive got a 50mm drop :) also i'd recommend a front strut brace, they are only around £50 and the difference is outstanding! Not to sure about a rear strutbrace as i havnt got one, yet! :D

Its always good to see good reviews as it boost's people confidence about using a company and know they should recieve good service. and i think you should name and shame the other company so that other people dont have to suffer the same experiences with them as you did yourself!

If you want even more power, via induction kit's check out the RR shootout thread, a company called GSR are developing an induction kit for you car and if its anything like mine you wont be dissapointed! There a meet and tune day going on sunday 26th (this weekend) in birmingham, if you local you should pop down! You could stick you beast on the rolling road and see what BHP its actually got :) (only £30 for two runs bargain!)

Colleauge has a standard 1.9 SRI Vectra with the 150 MJ JTD fitted and its a totally different kind of acceleration to my 115 JTD so Dave_R your remapped 150 must be awesome!

I was thinking remap & induction kit for mine to get into the region of 160-170 BHP. On e-blag there is a fair bit of OMP gear but I didn't see any strut braces for the Stilo. I was very tempted by the OMP stainless backbox and the 35 mm lowering springs, maybe a front strut brace... groved discs all round along with performance pads would then be a good move too :D

Shame my Insurance company threw their rattle out of the pram last time I mentioned uprated brake pads :bang:

Dave.

Thanks for the post, that sounds very interesting....

I bought a 2006 Stilo Mjet 150 about a month ago and had been thinking about a re-map myself - although the standard performnce is, as you say, very good.

Do you mind me asking how much the re-map cost?

What was the increase in BHP/torque?

Do Angel come to you or do you go to them?

Ive e-mailed one of the other main tuning specialists a few times but never had a reply, so its good to hear a solid recommendation like yous.

Thanks in advance,

Dave_R dont you think its the fair thing to do by naming the other tuning shop that let you down thereby saving other members wasted time and countless money IMO this seems to me to be a bit of a coincidence you post this when there's a tuning session taking place this Sat and Sunday :chin: maybe I'm wrong tell me if I am and I will publicly apologize :)

Well I know who did the original mapping for you now shall I name them for you :) Hows the Punto HGT going fine I hope ;)

Phil, as I understand it the boys we are seeing this weekend haven't got the 150 JTD on the cards for a re-map at this stage so theres nothing to be gained by publicly praising Angeltuning? They just don't need the publicity as they are so well established and their aftersales record is outstanding. Where there is competition is on the forums between members who believe their tuners must be the best cos they used them!! I bet the tuners get peeved with us lot comparing them to each other though?

I am gutted myself to find a JTD that has more oomph than my yellow beast so it's depressing reading either way.

Jeez, it must be fun with around 200 ponies though.

It wasnt Angel anyway boz and the guys this weekend will be getting LIVE remapping and not off the shelf jobby and hopfully will gain a few more horses that standard mapping [every thing crossed] (y)

To answer all questions :

The power output is currently estimated to be around the 185bhp mark.
Not sure on torque but it's clearly way higher than standard.
Test maps were attempted at 210bhp and 198bhp respectively, but the car
was MUCH too wild to be practical. At 210bhp it was mental, but caused detectable clutch slip and enormous wheel spin (smokin')!.
At 198bhp the wheels still furiously spun in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears.
The car has therefore been tuned to allow for the maximum possible mid-range power and driveability, without causing wheel and clutch slippage. It has also been optimized for good fuel economy and overall drive smoothness.

Ian, the cost of the remap was £350, they come to you and spent a good day with us so I feel it represents excellent value for money.

PNL, to set your mind at rest this has nothing to do with the upcoming weekend tuning session.

The company I have had all the fun and games with is Celtic Tuning.

Way back on August 6th 2006 I contacted them via their website about getting our Stilo re-mapped. They agreed to come on September 23rd to do the work, which they did.

Graham spent all day trying, including removing the ECU, creasing and leaving screwdriver marks on it's cover (bare in mind this was a brand new car).

Turns out he couldn't do it, either via OBD or the ECU itself. The standard map was reloaded and he agreed to to return the following Saturday to finish the work.

We waited in on Saturday and no-one turned up. No phone call, nothing.

After calling what felt like a million times (you ALWAYS get a bl@#dy answering machine, which is clearly infrequently checked) and leaving countless emails we finally got a response on 2nd October. Apparently Graham had had 'family issues' and had to go to Ireland for a bit. Fine, but he then went on to say that he'd handed on the work to colleagues who "forgot" to let us know - clearly not so good!

Anyway he promised to sort it out for us.

Heard nothing again for a couple of weeks, I therefore sent an email requesting an update and on 10 October got this reply :

"We are awaiting an update as the new kit had a glitch with EDC16C36 which is
what the Stilo uses. We are expecting the electronic update anytime now but
didn't want to book you in until it was definitely sorted."

OK fine, no problem. So we waited. And waited. And waited............

10th October was the last we heard from Celtic. It's now 24th November.

You can understand our frustration. And it doesn't seem like we were the only customers in the same boat. Posts on the Briskoda (Skoda) forum seem to indicate similar communication problems with Celtic.

It was at this point we called Angel. In complete contrast they answer your emails and phone calls promptly, they turn up when expected and tuned the car in a day. A true breath of fresh air. Top marks, Angel!!!

No advertising was intended. Purely the facts, as they happened.

Dave.

Dave.

Glad you said who it was I did know after searching and didn't mean to infer in any way that you were referring to the tuner at bromsgrove I always would say who buggered me about so as to warn people of the crap service they have given and I apologize if I came over a bit stroppy to you ...you will get used to me EVENTUALLY ;) (y)

Thanks very much for the detailed info Dave, its appreciated.

Sorry to hear you had problems, but funnily enough the company you had them with is the same one that never answered my e-mails.....one to avoid I think.

If I get mine booked up, do I ask for the 'Dave R' remap - or would they go through a similar process to set up my car by trying different settings like they did with yours?

Thanks again,

Hehehe no worries Phil, they did mess us around quite a bit, everything's ok now though, I'm simply having fun enjoying the car :) (y)

Cheers,

Dave.
