PNL and I have discovered that some Stilo's have space savers and some don't.

Logically you'd expect the space saver to offer a bit more space, say as cubby holes in the spare wheel well, but it would seem this is not the case.

It seems that Stilo's with space savers actually have a different rear floor pan to those that carry a full sized spare. This poll should prove the case.

PLEASE ONLY VOTE IF YOU HAVE A SPACE SAVER TYRE

Mine came with a space saver but a normal 17" alloy fits no problem, so i have a full size spare now (y) .

:woot: By by 15" spare then and hello new 17" alloy (y)

Quite a puzzling result so far as no trends are showing apart from possibly no space savers fitted to 1.2/1.4's (go on someone prove me wrong  ) and yes should have included option for “full size”

Had a close look in mine.

The fitting in the middle, which seems to hold the space saver up an inch or so, looks like it could account for a bit of space and also notice the 3 rubber pads. The most interesting parts are the two sections marked "raised" which must surely have been pressed during manufacture so looks like the decision to fit a space saver is made quite early

The term space saver is completely wrong as it turns out as no space is saved at all :bang:

Should be called a weight saver as it only weighs 11 Kgs (bit of a performance kick then :D )

I think I may know what your problem could be Argonaught now correct me if I'm wrong but most space saver wheels have a very protruding front face so that may give the impression of a small width wheel sitting high in the wheel well can you have a look and put a pic up if it has.
And if I'm correct I think a normal 15/16" wheel could just fit in there Orrrrr have you tried your 16" in there :chin:

Any chance of explaining how you did that FiatTech (without the hammer ;) )

Got space saver out plus the plastic tub for holding all the tool kit - took 1 of my wheels off and placed it inside. All you need is to place the tools in a cinquecento tool bag and place the jack in the centre of the well. Also you should place the wheel with the outer face upwards as this then makes part of the floor as the plastic tub previously did this.

Didnt the plastic tool tray fit inside the new wheel though fiat tech I though it would fly in there plenty of room :)

Well TBO Errrrrr yes it does mate :) I remember having a space saver in a Seat Cordoba a few years back and I soon got rid of it I went over to a brakers and bought a full sizes wheel and tyre and fitted it in but unfortunatly in this instance it left a bit of a bulge didnt care though as I was glad to ditch the bitch [space saver] :D

I just had a look, there is easily enough room for a full size wheel and tyre. The plastic tool holder takes up most of the space. It's obviously cheaper to supply a space saver than a full size wheel.

So are you saying you can fit a full sized wheel AND the tool holder

I don't have a spare tyre in my 2005 Stilo.

Instead i have the Fix & Go kit in mine. In place of the spare wheel there is a big plastic thing with some deep holes in it (for storage) plus space for the Fix & Go kit.
