Hi,

Just got myself a 1.6 dynamic on a 52 plate and very pleased with the car so far (appart from the dreaded airbag warning light - which after a fiddle with he cables has now gone).

What I wanted to know is, are there any aftermarket cd headunits that will link into the mini-display in between the dials like the fiat radio does? or is my only option to get an origenal fiat cd player?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Jason

thanks....don't suppose anyone knows of any specific wiring kits that will allow the oem dash display to be used?

the other question I had was what happens to the space on the dash screen (above the clock and temparature) where it would normally say something like "Radio 1"?

Cheers again.

I have turned off the radio info bit and it shows the day/date instead.

thats ok then....not like it leaves a big blank space behind then.....now all I need to do is get myself a facia adaptor for the cd player then. :)

cheers guys!

No, still got carpet on the one in the car. The c/f job was one of three I sent off to the patent office in Cardiff to register the idea. A well known car manufacturer in Gaydon have invited me for a discussion but I cant do anything until the patent comes through. Liewise a design company in New York have asked to act as agents for the distributon of license to manufacture; they did want some money up front though.

Not building my hopes up at this stage but everybody who has seen it working has litterally said "f**k me". It's often the simplest ideas that have the wow factor.

yea, I know it well, got it in mine :D
I think the problem you will have is the influx of new ipod headunits coming out this year that can be operated fully through the pod as well...
I'd like to see one you kind of sit the pod in then push it back into the headunit...
I stil need something to cover the mdf though... was meant to go to kippax this week for some padded shelfing stuff, but alas, i never went.

i have an alpine head unit ready to fit which displays the radio stn on the display , if i put it in my stilo will the dash screen be blank or is there a way of keepin the date n time there ta

The idea of oerating the i-pod from the head unit and not the other way around was for safety purposes. You may as well have a phone in your hand if your going to operate the head unit through the i-pod. Canot see any sense in that?

Some more pics of the sound system below.

why is rotating the ipod dial any more safe than rotating the wheel on the headunit.
you'd get there quicker with the ipod, so it'd be less of a distraction.

Scrolling aint that bad but naviating the stations/songs without your eyes on the road is asking for trouble. That why manufacturers stick stereo buttons on the steering wheel.

I've asked at 3 Fiat dealers about changing from the tape player to Fiat CD player and all have said it cant be done as I'd need a new ECU for £500 in addition!

Can I go down Halfords choose a stereo and they can fit it with my fascia plate and that will 100% work? Whats a good cheap CD/Ipod compatible one?

Cheers

You can get any aftermarket head unit to fit into the car. Halfords is good cos of the free fitting service. I recommend the alpine head unit and ipod connector (cos that's what I've got) although there are other makes like pioneer and kenwood that do some awesome nice lookers. You'll need to buy a fascia adapter, they're 1399 from autoleads (via halfrauds) But it's all easy from there.

When I had head unit problems with the factory fitted headunit, they said they couldn't (wouldn't) replace the CD player for a new cd player, for the above reasons, but when I spoke to the head technician, he said it was possible, and it didn't involve replacing the ECU... although i didn't go much deeper cos i wanted a better sounding head unit.
