Hi all,

I took my fiat stilo 1.2 to a fiat garage to have my engine management light problem diagnois. They told me the problem was to do with the ignition coils.
To cut a long story short I had all the ignition coils changed and i'm still getting the same problem as before which is erratic judgering and misfires throughout gear changes.

I now believe the garage has run out of ideas and has told me I will need to get a new ECU chip which will cost roughly around £500

Can anyone help

Thank you

Are you paying?

Why can't they diagnose the problem and not replace parts in a haphazard way? Why replace all coils? Has it been on the diagnostic tool? Have you spoken with them as to their ideas? Who did you buy the car from, same dealer?

Is it covered under warranty? Have you had it serviced in accordance with Manufacturers recommendations? Have you heard of the Sales of Goods act 1974?

Personally, I would be a little unhappy right now and kicking up a right stink with the branch manager. Asking when it will be fixed, who is paying for the parts / labour that has not cured the problem etc

I took my 1.2 Stilo to the dealer today over the engine fault light. To be fair, mine doesn't sound quite as serious, "just" the throttle body (what is this?) needs replacing, although the quoted price for the part alone is over £430+fitting, is this about right?

Throttle body  NOT serious I suggest you goggle throttle body and read very carefully and make sure you have a box of Kleenex tissues

I believe i have the oldest Stilo in Europe.Got it new in Jan 02.Was this the 1st one? Still have the piece of crap now.
Faults up to and including right now;

1.) Cant open doors when weather cold.
2.) Central locking failed after 1 month.
3.) Wipers developed a mind of their own.
4.) Headlights needed replacing after 1 month.
5.) Needed new shocks almost from new.
6.) Door panels needed replacing after central locking "repaired".
7.) Engine warning light comes on 1 day after warranty expires. Told replacement ECU will need replacing at 800 euro!!.
8.) Car in dealers 2 weeks told nothing wrong with ECU!!!
9.) Constant beeping from warning system regarding airbag, oil pressure, doors open, bulbs blown, battery flat in remote etc,etc.......
10.) Now sitting outside house with flat battery after 1 cold night too many.

Now heres the funny bit......Ive just bought another one 2 years old with....Beeping from the warning system!!!!!!!!!!!HELP ME!!!

Lol, we all love the Stilo ownership experience really. The "thrill" of getting ready for work to find the car won't start, the suspense as you hear the dreaded beep and wait for the screen to tell you the latest component to fail, or more likely to be temporarily awkward.

I guess you could argue it serves to add character to the Stilo!

If we really wanted a super reliable car with zero personality then we would all drive Corolla's/Civic's (old)/Almera's.

Now thats when you really need help!
