Hi All

My car, amongst many other Stilo's in this group, have been suffering from some minor electrical "niggles" - e.g. the ASR, ESP failures, difficulty in startup e.t.c. I was wondering if anyone had tried putting a higher capacity in the car and seeing what effect it had. My Stilo also seems to be very devoid of power sometimes (e.g. the interior lights faintly blink with the hazards on (engine off)).

Years ago, my father had a Citroen XM, which had loads of computer faults, including one which caused it to rev at 2500rpm at idle even when hot. Citroen put a higher capacity battery in and it was cured - they said the car was running in a safe mode, causing the engine to rev higher to get more power to the system.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

One day i heard my dealer to talk about 2 batteries in Stilo maybe i heard wrong i dont know but a larger battery i believe would be fine as the replacement depends on the options you have on the car.Im really not sure to tell but it seems so easy and there always loss in something maybe the fuels.A cheap version of the replacement is to to replace the standard electrolyte with a new boosted version of the same unless the battery is without liquids i dont know much about this but i know someone who knows ill try to learn.;)

Mmm?

I got the same sort of thing going on. If you open a window the headlights fade. If you turn on the de-mister, same thing. I'm just living with it at the moment, but I'd like to know the answer.

Cheers.

The amount of electrical accesorries,i.e windows and such will drain a battery if you keep using them that is to say opening and closing them for an hour continously, without starting the engine. not likely as
they tend to be used intermitantly Most batteries are sealed so changing the elctrolyte is not an option. This is not likely to help anyway.
Fitting a higher capacity would help though.
One must also consider that fitting a higher capacity battery means that the alternator will need to be able to supply enough current to charge it.
Poor battery perfomance may be down to a faulty cell.
Check also that the correct batteriy has been fitted.
Most cars are fitted with a standard battery for the basic specifiction of the car so when you add extras which increase the load on the battery they tend to forget to upgrade the battery and alternator to cope with the extra load.
Short journeys do not help particularly in Winter as you tend to have the heater demister and headlights and rear window demister on which has a high load factor on the battery even though the alternator is delivering the current to top the battery up it will take longer to charge it up, iff the battery is in poor condition it will rapidly decline in efficency.

Have the alternator output and battery checked out with an Auto Elctrical firm that speclises in Car Lorries Auto electrical systems.
I doubt whether main dealers have technicians who know how to do it and have the right equipment to do it.
Hope this help to clarify some points.

I dont know for you guys but my battery is not sealed as i went to a garage and they put me the electrolyte and solve the problem of <<blinking inside lights with the hazards on>>

Changing the electrolyte is not the solution.
May help short term, not convinced about it though.
Have the output of the alternator and battery checked.
