Is the Stilo paint quality generally considered as poor? I've thought it looks a bit thin occassionally, and today I got a reputable dent repairers out to fix a dent from a car door that i got in a car park last week. When he started to heat the panel the paint began to crack and bubble and he stopped immediately and said it would have to be a bodyshop job, and left without charging. He was a nice guy and clearly very experienced, and I did phone another place and they confirmed that it can happen with 'certain' italian makes if the paint quality is poor and that the guy did the right thing by stopping.

Just a warning to anyone else looking to get this done on their Stilo..!

dent repair on metal panels with a heater? that is new for me, over here in Holland we also have dent repairs, but i didn`t see any heating involved. Just rubbing and pushing on the inside with special tools.

Anyway, i find the paint on the stilo good quality. Maybe a little soft some times as you can notice that with polishing.

I think you've been stung! Why on earth would you use heat to carry out a paintless dent repair? I've had these done in the past and heat was never used.

I think you'd have a case against the repairer for failing to exercise reasonable care and skill...

It was one of the major UK chains that came out and tried to do it, and I did double check with another one and a bodyshop, although the bodyshop suggested it was possible to overheat it (if the dent wasn't coming out). I didn't witness it myself so I can't tell you exactly what happened, just that he said it wasn't possible with paint quality that bad and he stopped as soon as it started to crack. The dent is pushed out but in a rippled way.

Bodyshop time.
