The lovely Stilo has moved up to 70 in Auto express ratings out this week.
This is up from 90 something last time.
Due to a campaign to get owners to vote.
70 is not that bad considering a lot of cars are not vetted due to a lack of response from owners.
One problem mentioned I totally disagree with is poor brakes.
I find mine are exceptional, and in one of the car mags not long back their test said "the brakes are nearly supercar standard"

"Supercar standard" ?!

Someone's having a definite laugh there. I'd hardly rate the brakes in my Abarth as anything like that - they're OK, but not exceptional.

Indeed - I agree with Neil. Yes, they work, and I don't get much fade breaking hard from 100 or so :p BUT to call them exceptional? Granted, they have always stopped me quick enough, but 'supercar standard' implies stopping on a dime in an instance.

Brakes we're the biggest disappointment for me, however I did move from an Alfa GTV where I had uprated the brakes and fitted drilled/groved discs and uprated pads.

My brakes seem to have improved with age but I wouldn't say they were exceptional. Not driven a supercar but I'd **** myself if a 400bhp ferrari relied on brakes from the Stilo (y)

Notice, the Stilo comes above quite a few of it's direct competitors including Alfa 147, Pug 307 and Astra (albeit the old model) and I think there was a couple more that I've forgotten now.

My biggest grip with the JD power test is it tars all the range with the same brush! Asks what engine you've got and then gives you the average of the fuel consumption results! :(

As for the rest, seems about right! I personally view my 1.2 Stilo as more of a Polo competitor, its about the same power as the 1.4, better spec'd, quicker, more economic, bigger, cheaper and oh look 70 versus 88 for the Polo!

My recent experiences of Fiat dealers have been very good.

When the Stilo was in at Perth last week with a nice long list of things to check the service technician actually rang me to go over everything on the list and I got a call to say when the car was ready and a follow up call to say when the new parts were in.

Dunfermline have also been pretty good in the recent past.

The rubbish one was Kirkcaldy but I stopped using them about 3 years ago.

I do not like the brakes at all. I find them rather soft, uncertain feeling and variable.
Soemtimes from 70mph I find it varies how much spnoge there'll be in the pedal.

My last but one car was a Suzuki Baleno Gsr and the brakes on that were exceptionally good - that thing could stop so hard you'd trouble keeping tongue in mouth.
