A few months back I lost the dash on my Stilo JTD 53 plate,so the car got abandoned as no one knows how to fix it,went out and started the car this week and the dash seemed to work (for a few minutes) next time I looked the rev counter was stuck at 1,000 rpm and where the mileage is has Sensor Failure with a spanner and is lighten up all the time-anybody else come across this?.

since xmas we have changed about 10 but havent changed any in ages before that. wouldnt want to say that is your fault without looking at your car every fault is different

If there's a possibility that the cars battery is worn out (ie it's the original battery or the car struggles to start) then getting a new battery might be a cheap solution to the dashboard problems, as they do go abit wild when the battery is knackered.

However, i suspect due to the rev counter sticking part-way up, that it is the actual instrument cluster that's faulty. I think sometimes one of the dry solders can fail, which i'd imagine is reasonable cheap/easy to fix, but sometimes the whole instrument cluster has to be replaced. I think some places can recondition them now, but i'm not 100% sure. A search on here will reveal alot of posts about this problem, as it is pretty well known on Stilos.

I think the Stilo is the only Fiat that uses Visteon instrument clusters - everything else i've seen has Veglia Borletti ones, which don't seem anywhere near as problem-prone.

nearly all of the new fiats use the marelli clusters

Marelli are a Fiat Group company arn't they? Was Veglia Borletti?

I know Visteon had a plant in Essex & has a presence in Ireland so i presume they've nothing to do with Fiat & that trying them was just a one off thing that Fiat did with the Stilo and possibly the new Bravo (for its stereo).
