Hi Guys,
Yesterday I noticed a small puddle of what seems to be engine coolant in my passenger footwell. When driving along I had smoke coming from my air vents and that I had no engine coolant, also there was smoke coming through my air vents. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone have an idea of repair and how much it cost? From research it seems it seems to be a leaking heating matrix? Is 'Bars Leaks' and 'Radwell' a temp or permanent fix for this? I would be grateful if someone could tell me whats happening and how I should go about fixing the problem, as I have no clue about cars.
Thanks,
James.

That's very rare, Stilo Heater matrix isn't as prone to leaks as some cars

Leak fixes and similar are a bit kill or cure, flip a coin

If it is the matrix leaking then it's an awkward job for access. I think i'd remove the passenger seat as that's quite easy to do. Check there isn't a simple leak from the flow/return pipes to the matrix but with smoke in the cockpit then it sounds pretty dire

Ah Ok, thanks for the advice. I did put some radweld in the engine coolant as I thought I may aswell give it a try seeing as it looks like a new heating matrix + labour is likely to cost above £1000+ from research... After putting radweld in I looked underneath the car and it seems there is a small leak from a pipe under the left passenger side so I am wondering if I have disinlonged a pipe or damaged the underneath of the car, somehow causing a leak. I could taste the engine coolant from the trickle. I think I should take it into a garage tomorrow to get them to check it out? But am wondering if they will charge for diagnostic and it will no doubt take a long while to fix...

If you mean the normal drain pipe underneath the car then moisture from aircon or otherwise drains away from there and that's normal. What isn't normal is if you can detect coolant in the fluid as that means you have a matrix leaking as you suspect

They won't do diagnostics if the problem isn't electrical, your problem is more of a simple plumbing mechanical leakage.

You'd need a new matrix, flush through, new antifreeze and system bleed but it's not a lot of work, might only take a couple of hours. On many cars you have to take the whole ventilation distribution box out and that's major but it looks like it can be done in situ on a Stilo and even easier being rh drive with no pedals in the way

For the moment,if you join the heater thru cabin flow and return pipes with a suitable sized tube and tighten with jubilee clips then you can have a fully working car but with no heater. Depends how desperate for transport you are

I'm having the same problem.

First, my car temperature just started to increase and I noticed that the coolant was gone.
I refilled the coolant on the system and started to dissapear again very quickly, then the drivers floor start to get wet (left driver side) and I started to get really worry.
Tomorrow I will get the car to a shop, hope they can find the problem fast.

Will keep you posted.

Just as Deckchair5 said, my problem was the heater matrix.
Is kind of hard to get to the matrix, so they just unplug the water pipe.
For the moment I don't have hot air, but anyway I never use it.
