Everytime I leave my car I take a huge electrical shock when touching the door to close it. Did someone experienced the same ?
I don't need to start the motor, I only turn on my connect nav.

1) I enter the car
2) turn on the radio
3) turn off the radio
4) Leave the car

Everytime I do that, I take a shock, I've tried 3 times, one after another, with the same result, you can even see a little lightening.

I presume you haven't got leather. Also, what shoes do you wear? All this may contribute to static buildup - I suffer from it when I go up to escalators, etc, in shopping centres.

It's static electricity built up in your clothing discharging its self through the car when you get out. The charge will probably be caused by the type of fibre from which your clothing is manufactured, I know nylon clothing is very prone to building up static charges.

My wife suffers these discharges at times and I know they can be unpleasant.

Static electricity, I experience it with my Stilo as well, experienced it with my previous car (Ford Escort); especially in winter time when you wear more clothes which are made of prone to static electricity build-up fabrics; nothing to worry about...

i havent had this with the stilo, but i noticed it with a previous car. the best way round it is to hold on to the roof or b pillar when leaving the car. this earths you without a shock.

Actually the technique is when getting out of the car open the door, stick your foot out first, don't grab the door frame to lever yourself out! Walk over to something wooden, place a hand on, then go back and shut your car.

Alternatively, keep a foot long length of dowl and earth yourself when you get out, then shut the door.

Also, don't wear cheap rubber soled shoes!

This happens because I assume like me, most people get out of their car by twisting thier bootom 90 degrees, this will cause static build up (dependent on clothes/seat material, high/less) therefore this extra charge must go somwhere to earth itself. Always treats me a shock!!!!

Thank you for your reply,
It's true, when I get in and get out the car without seating I don't take any shock, I think it's the velvet of the seats that are causing the static charge.
The only solution it's to change it to leather.

Changing to leather may make a difference in portugal where u wear shorts and t-shirts all year but i got leather and get zapped everytime, its because of my berghaus fleece i think, so not only will i have to do complicated manouvers to get out the car but drive it naked, or atleast with out a fleece. :D

I have seen some cars (not necessarily Fiat) with little earthing straps hanging down at the back....aren't these designed to prevent the little electric shocks? I even think I have seen them for sale in automotive stores.
