Apologies,
new to the forum and allready posting tech questions!

Looking at picking up the above car from a dealer but all the lights on the dash are lit and stay lit.
I used the search facility and I could find loads of threads about dead clusters but not one like the above.
Is it a simple fix of replace the cluster and get it mated to the car or something more sinister.
Dont want to pay out for another lemon!

Many thanks guys

Mat

Are they not giving a good long warranty then?

Nope, trade sale spares or repairs.
Paid the deposit now, going to take a risk and replace the dash. For the price I paid I should be able to shift it on again with no loss even if it is something else.
Drives fine so hopefully all should be well!
The trip computer has flashed up all sorts of warnings as well as the dash lights, the rev counter isnt working so after looking at it is looking more and more like the instrument cluster!

Well, travelled 100 miles to grab a second hand instrument cluster. Got there and it was completely different to the one in mine. Really should have checked before hand! Didnt know there were different clusters for different cars. If anyone is interested, the scrap yard still has it and it is from an abarth tiptronic with radar cruise control. Let me know and I will pass on the number for them. They only want £40

Wow! Bet those fittings, if still in one piece, would go for great money on eBay (y)

Right,
replaced the instrument cluster with a known good one and it threw up exactly the same faults.
Next port call is the D4 connector and on from there.
It always throws up the following,
Airbag failure
ARS failure
Loose Connection

The gauges that are not working are,
Rev counter
Oil temperature

The lights that are on are,
airbag
ARS
Engine management
Oil pressure
'Warning triangle' thing

Does anyone know which of these are connected to which ECU's? If they are seperate ECU's then I have a wiring fault/loose connection. If they are all run off one ECU then I thinks I need a new one!

Going to start cleaning up all connectors now to see if I get anywhere.

Wish me luck!

forgot to mention. The trip computer only works for trip mileage and trip time. All other functions flash up --:--

There are several ECUs involved with your list af faults but they all "talk" to each other via the CANBUS network. D4 connector is the common link.

Thanks very much. Answered that question. I will get this bloody car sorted sooner or later!
Its lucky it cost as little as it did or i would have been shoving it on allready!

Right,
cleaned everything up with contact cleaner and checked all connections to no avail.
It is registering a loose connection on the dashboard, but my 3rd party software wont tell me where.
Will examiner tell me where the fault lies as I dont want to spend money to just tell me what my laptop has told me!

no, the Examiner is not a wonder tool, it won't tell you where the fault lies - this will need a logical approach to rule out all possible causes......

So to clarify, it wont tell me 'I cant read a signal from xx ecu to the dash, but I am getting a good signal from all other ecu's, so your fault is probably between this ecu and the dash?'

Sorry to be a pain in the backside, used to older motors that can be fixed with a spanner!
