Just tried to fit my new Optima Yellow Top battery today only to find that the positive and negative poles are the opposite way round to those on the battery that Fiat fit.:bang:

So I tried turning the battery round 180 degrees only to be stopped by all the wires and the huge distribution attachment fitted by Fiat to the cars positive battery connector. So anybody out there done this already and able to put me out of my misery?

Most stores (like Halfords) carry lookup books to find the correct battery.

Just buy the best you can (normally means highest AH rating)

If it don't fit then they've given you duff advice so just take it back for refund.

It's obviously the wrong one - just take it back!

Would that it were that simple however, it is the correct one. The only thought I've come up with so far is that I could make some kind of link cable with a spare battery terminal and a short length of battery cable. I'll have another look at the distribution unit attached to the current positive terminal in the morning to see if I can separate the two and see if I could use a short length of battery cable to join them together.

i bought a yellow top for mine.. for all the ice.. but had the same problem, i was lazy and sent it back and got a different battery.. but it shouldn't be an issue.. just extend the wires like you say

Take it back and get the proper one adding bits of wire around the battery will only cause you grief as the stilo's electrics are moody enough as standard :(

Nonono. Imagine how thick this cable have to be - with no loss of current. Refuse to advice on this, other than get a battery that fits. In addition, the pad has several "inline" fuses that must be as near the battery terminal as possible for the correct resistance.
