Hi
Just got a 53 reg 1.6 petrol. 49500 miles
Some ratteling underneath ( middle /back ) on rough surfaces.

Exhaust mountings perhaps ?

Also, the motor seems quite noisy/rattly when started for the first few minutes. Is this normal.

Thank you

Very likely anti roll bar links- look in Stilo Guides. A light but irritating rattle on rough surfaces coming from more central to the car. Open a front door and gently set the car rocking side to side and you may hear the rattle/ light knocking underneath. About £15 per side and 30mins to change

1.6 engine sounding diesel like for first 10 secs is cam buckets refilling with oil after draining out overnight. A change to new oil can make the difference

Unless you find the droplink from hell.
Did the ones on my own car in about that time (after I found out to turn the wheels full right to access the lower right nut.
The old droplinks on my daughters car however were mounted with the help of some vicegrips so they had damaged threads.....
Took a while longer and a dremel in the end....(n)

My Stilo does nothing but rattle, mainly interior and suspension. I've given up and just turn the stereo up.

Dumping rubbish from door pockets and coating Waxyoil on suspension bushes (also any rusty bits) normally helps a lot.

Have a Search if you don't mind getting your hands dirty :)

Thanks
Got the car booked for a service on Thursday.
I'll tell them to look out for these things.
Also doing timing belt and water pump.

Anything else spesific I should get checked now.

Thanks again.

I am having the anti roll bar links done today, so hopefully the noise will be a thing of the past.
