have got a 52 plate 115 jtd and am exausting possibilities whats wrong with it. what does your egr valve look like and how easy is it to clean? i am at the stage of burning the thing and pissing on the ashes.

Its not difficult to clean at all, just a little time consuming removing it. When removed, undo the four torx screws noting where the washer fits between the solenoid and the valve. Clean with carbon/gasket cleaner, brake cleaner etc, when everything is cleaned rebuild and refit.

There was no gasket on mine when I cleaned it (thought it a bit strange at the time) :chin:

In fact I noticed the solenoid vents to the atmosphere via a couple of slots deliberately made in the casing.

Should it have a gasket or is mine just an earlier version?

Nope I never said gasket did I Argo? Between the solenoid and the valve is a big washer which like you say has slots in. This has to be fitted back the same way, if its not then the valve wont vent properly.

Gasket or washer I'm sure mine didn't have one although it was well caked up with soot (as in it didn't look like anyone had had it off for while)

So, should it vent or not as mine clearly does?

T14086, I don't mean it vents exhaust gases directly, I'm referring to the solenoid end of the valve. Mind you the soot MUST come from somewhere so I suppose it follows that it must vent a small amount of exhaust gases :chin:

The soot you had venting was only the soot that had passed through the valve and through the valve sleeve, if it was airtight the solenoid wouldnt be able to work correctly.
