I am in the market to purchase a compatible OBD2 reader for my 2002 1.6 Petrol Stilo.

Does any body know if the Uiftech U381 is compatible? It states "Works on all 1996 and newer cars (NOT CAN-BUS)".

I have had the "Engine Fault" display every time I start the engine, but the car is running perfectly as far as I can tell. I seem to have full power and am getting between 40-45mpg at the moment.

This is the second time this has happened in nearly 2 years, funnily enough at the exact same point, on the exact same road, next to a BOC gas depot.

Last time it happened, I took it in to Fiat and they told be nothing was wrong, but they "cleaned" a sensor in the air intake just in case, and billed me £95.00 for their efforts.

If this OBD2 reader is not compatible, can anyone recommend a fairly cheap (£30-£40) that is?

I believe the Stilo is CAN-bus, so therfore I wouldn't bother.

I'm sure Stilo boffins much more knowledge than myself will be along soon, and I'm quite sure they will confirm what I think.

Most of the standard fault code readers are unable to read the can bus, only more expensive OBD2 diagnostics can read can bus for air bag and abs etc.

Got a link for the Uiftech U381 ? Best to email the seller as to what car you have and let them do the investigation

Personally, i prefer an interface and laptop as you can do soooooooo much more but it depends how deep you want to go

Thanks, looks like I will need to buy a Cam bus version.

What do you think about this one?

Do you think it will work?

Yep looks good. But talk to mike first [email protected] and then if they get it wrong and it isn't compatible it's their lookout rather than just ordering blindly and hoping you might get a refund

Already dropped Mike a message asking compatibility, will post when I get confirmation on compatibility as the info will obviously be useful for other here.

Mike has come back and advised the U381 is compatible. On searching the net I have found a site listing all car connector types, and the Stilo is listed as

ISO9141-2,ISO14230-4

So looks like he is right. I have opted for the U581, although a little more expensive, having "CAN" could be useful when I change my car.

Protocols types can be found here

Ordered from Mike Yesturday, U581 arrived first thing this morning. Only one fault logged P0105 (Manifold absolute pressure, same code I got last time I drove past the BOC gas depot 18 mnths ago and paid Fiat £95 to reset).

Reset the fault code, no more beep beep beep "Engine Fault", even after a couple of road trials. Brilliant.

At least I now know if the fault does remanifest, I should get the car checked out, if it does not happen again, then I am quids in.

Maybe the BOC gas plant is throwing out toxic fumes and confusing your MAP sensor:)

Try some contact cleaner on your MAP sensor connector if you get problems again.

It's easily found on the 1.6

Yeh, I was thinking of doing that after I found your previous post on the subject. I might just do it anyway, just in case.

Just an update, no further problems since I reset the service light, so save me some cash in the end.
