hello people, wassup? im new to this site although ive had my punto 75sx "p" reg for over a year now, it has picked up a REALLY annoying problem which i can not seem to control....basically after i drive it for about.....20-30 mins...and it heats up a littttle bit...it starts revving by itself.....reaching...2...3...even 4....i mean my foot is nowhere near the acc.pedal.....it just goes mad. this is REALLY annoying and embaressing when stuck in traffic .....quite silent.....and theres u in ur car turning ur stereo up trying to drain out the noise for u atleast.
NOW.....this is REALLLy annoying and i obviously wanna get rid of this! i had heard that this is a fault with a certain batch of punto's not sure.....ANYONE have any ideas or info? PLZ PLZ PLZ lemme know.........
thx in advance!! thank yoU!!!!

Sounds like a faulty idle stepper motor. best bet is to run it for a while and then take it to a garage while the "thing" is happening.

"faulty idle stepper motor"......oh THAT? lol :)..............rekon u cud explain wot that is for me mate?

it's basicley what it's named! its a little motor used to controll the idle speed. Normaly with idel problems this is to blame. Your problem could also be down to an air leak on the induction side of the engine tho. But if your car is fitted with a idle stepper motor then this is more than liteley the cause of the problem.
Dont know much about punto's so i cant really help any more than that!

The ECU automatically adapts the idle speed of the engine, which will change if you have more stuff running. it will increase the idle speed if you have the stereo and lights on for example, as the alternator requires more power.

It does this with a little motor (almost like a servo in an R/C car). It could be a fault with this over-compensating.

Yip had the exact same peoblem with mine where as soon as you placed the car in neutral the revs fell to zero and the engine cut out. Other times the engine would rev up to about 2000rpm when idleing on it's own.

Was quote about £200 from Fiat for a replacement part supplied and fitted but the mechanic told me to go to a scrappy and pick one up second hand. Did so and got it for £40 :D

Easy to fit if you know what your doing if you don't then I am afraid it's FIat

P.S. unsure of the MK1 Punto's maybe there different. But on my MK2 I had to buy the entire Air inlet manifold part as it's a sealed unit and can't be broken up to get the desired part. probably why it was gonna be at leat £200 from Fiat.

ok....gonna make a trip to the scrap yard.....ok so WOT exactly am i lookin for?....lets say i find a punto mk1, i open the bonnet......wot shud i be lookin for? thx for the help guuys"!

Like I say I dunno if the Mk1 is the same but on the MK2 it's the inlet manifold unit you need. Not easy recognisable unless you know what your looking for. Take someone who knows with you.
