I have a 2001 Fiat Scudo 1.9d non-turbo.

Up until last week it has been just fantastic.

I had noticed it becoming slightly harder to start of a morning, where it used to fire on the first turn it had crept up to sometimes needing a longer crank. The glow plug lights however worked as per normal.

Last week it refused to start.

Which is typical as I had just put it up for sale and I am having to turn buyers away now whilst the advert slowly runs out. I need to sell this van as it is surplus to requirements, so spending more cash on it is annoying.

It turns over but doesn't fire, although it seems to be turning over slower the more I have tried it, (So I've stopped).

I've searched through dozens of threads and it seems my problem might be the glow plugs.

I ordered a set off EBAY, they have Halfords part number HGP720 on them and the ad stated they were for the Scudo I have.

They arrived this morning and they appear to be tiny, much smaller that what I can see when I look under the inlet manifold on the van.

Are they the right ones?

Do they just fit into some kind of housing?

I can't do the job myself but I wanted to drop her at the mechanics with the parts ready. Please help!

Also: advice on anything else worth checking?

Thank you. :)

i have same van same problem changed glow plugs filters everything but no change then changed starter motor next day fired up first time been told starter was not windind over fast enough to start engine been superb ever since hope this helps

Were your glow plugs much smaller in the packet than the large bolts appear on the outside of the engine?

no exact size 90mm my probs were same as yours starter winding over i thought it was winding fast enough but soon as i changed it van started straight away ref on my plugs fgp525 got mine off ebay even though it says 1.9d my cc is 1867cc if yours is same u need plugs for 1867cc 1.9d

Mine are stamped HGP720 11v-m602 and are from Halfords and are about 70 mm long.

When fitting them do they slide into an aperture through / under the large bolt on the engine case....?

Just to clarify.

I haven't dismantled the engine and won't be doing so - I am taking it to a garage for that - so I can't tell if they will or won't screw in as I can hardly see past the inlet manifold and I don't know what the aperture is like that they go into.

I've bought the glow plugs advertised as being for the 1.9 Scudo and they have the codes I have listed above.
