Looking to obtain some bigger brakes to refurbish and fit to the Qubo. I'm used to VERY good brakes and these don't cut it.

Am I right in saying that it's based on Grande Punto and if so what's the options, punto turbo ones? Or will something else fit 20vt etc?

What about the rear axle (drum) is this the same as punto and did they do a large disc setup i can get off something?

Not yet mate, having said that I have had very little time. The most obvious way to go is Punto evo/turbo thing, trouble is qubo is drum rear and I think a different axle, so unless I had the bits side by side can't see if I can convert it to the Punto disc setup. Will need to bolt different stub axle, backplate, brake carrier, handbrake cables, brake pipes, abs setup etc.

Hi.
Did you find anything suitable for you Qubo brake upgrade?

Uhm.... Are you doing track days or something? Maybe carrying larger loads? To sound like an old git if you need bigger brakes on a standard car on normal roads then you drive at least a little too dangerously and I fear for you, your passengers and those you might collide with.

No track days and you are missing the point. I never said I need better braking, or that the brakes can't cope. I want better braking and I want less pedal effort, I want more response. Wooden dull and adequate works, but is not my thing.

I also want to recode the steering assist, it's too stiff. A jag, i can whip round a hairpin with my little finger, ditto parallel park. Does that mean I'm driving too fast and can't turn the wheel? No. It's all about the feel, effort and the reserves, I drive mainly up to the limit and within the standard van's capabilities. Yes I have done track days, I have a full clean (many years) bike and car license and I have a load of performance vehicles to test drive on a regular basis (I own a garage) and my other daily driver is a 5.0 AMG 330hp. The brakes on that are not good either. The brakes on my superb, my croma and my partners Meriva are all superb, I like the feeling of only needing to breathe on the pedal and getting a strong g-force pull which pulls you up quicker than you need to, so you have to back off the brakes. It's very confidence inspiring a) always stopping quicker than you though you might and b) being a long way away from the point of lock up, so that in an emergency eye popping levels of braking can be pulled out of the bag c) not having to beat up the controls, just breathe on them to make for an effortless drive.

The existing brakes are okay, but the pedal is heavy and they don't have much bite, when braking to a roundabout I will press the pedal what I think it hard enough but near to stopping point the braking hasn't met expectations and I have to press harder with a slight 'is this going to stop in time' feel. It's not that much about braking hard, more about gentle pressure generating lively and confidence inspiring braking.

But this is just personal, if you like braking with a wooden feel and a noticeably heavier pedal and lower g force per lb pressure than other similar vehicles, then leave them stock. It just doesn't inspire me. Being as a workshop we refurbish and powder coat brakes for RS, Porche etc if I'm going to do them I might as well showcase the brakes a bit - but if I didn't do it for a living I would probably be happy enough just with some decent pads. I prefer black diamond for my own cars road use, excellent bite even from cold. Hope that explains!

A thorough explanation, thanks. The first time a junior driver has to brake a bit too hard they should learn to read the road and or slow down before blaming their vehicle or wishing to improve their vehicle. And there is literally nowhere any modern car should be near the limit on a public road. Sounds as though you are applying a little more craft to the situation.

Yes, it's not a driving thing, I'll happily go and drive a truck, jcb, superbike or fetch in a car with no pas and no clutch and drive it through the traffic just fine.

But when it's my own car I'm fussy and I know what I like :) I cut the floorplan down and made custome seat mountings in my Montego years ago because I wasn't happy with the seat position. I have already remounted the Qubo gearbox ecu under the dash and removed the false floor to give extra legroom on the passenger side, I'm going to tackle the legroom on the driver's side next - I'll go to any length to get the car set up how I like it, flickable as a hot hatch, effortless as a Jag and fits like a glove. Just because I like the room of an MPV the Qubo will be no exception.

I want better brakes just because I can. Nothing to do with driving fast.
It’s also about making the car your own.
Have you done anything else to your Qubo Greg123 ?

Not a lot, EGR off, 100hp remap, just having powder coated some black metallic 17in wheels (multi spoke from punto) for it, tints on the rear windows and a full LET (£150 Philips bulbs) setup on the front lights coming. Then I have some canbus parking sensors and will start to think about brakes.

But the most annoying thing is the 5 speed box. I want the 6. I may change vehicle if I can't get a box for it, I'm not going to big turbo and customise something that revving away on the motorway.
