Hi guys, got a question for you.
I have a 55SX, got an exhaust and an induction kit. I have been told that my next engine-ish upgrade should be my camshaft. I know that a 75 cam will fit, but what else would i need to make it work? Or is there a better cam i should use? I dont want to change my engine etc as i like the car and want to keep it for a while.

Thanks for any replys!

866 (75 cam) is a very good mod, from the 75 engine or late 98, 99 60 engines you should change the exhaust valve springs but most people don't and they seem to be ok. Works well with the Mkcritch chip.

Thanks, i was thinking of getting the Mkcritch chip at the end of the month.
So all i would need is the camshaft (and exhaust valve springs), ill get these from the local scrap yard. Is it a straight swap? Should i do the chip after, or does it make a difference?

I thought i'd have to change the valve shim's under the buckets on my spi 60 head. but when I checked it was fine.

the 75 mpi has slightly different springs (bit harder/faster rate) than the spi.

yes its a worthy mod that doesn't really generate power, but lets the engine breath better and you'll find its damn smooth between 3.5k-5k compared to the std '176' cam

yes make sure it says 886 on it, as SOME 75's seem to have had replacements at somepoint in their life and they have '176' cams put back in their

Doesn't really matter which comes first. TBH I lifted my rocker cover, set the cam so I could see if 'owt moved. undid the cam bolts and switched cams...check my sig if you want a laugh.

I also had a chance to try a standard cam in mine (I'm a mug) crap compared to the 866.

Good mod, do it. - as f4t states, I made no changes to my shims they woz fine.

Right, davethetrike and faster4_tec you guys have now convinced me, im off to the scrap yard!

Do i just need the camshaft itself, or do i really need the exhaust valve springs?
Dont want to make multiple trips.

Thanks guys.

What would you sugest i did after this mod?

a 75 cam is better than the std 1108 cam but there are other alternatives a C&B cam in various profiles I have a 268 in mine (std springs just re-shimmed), Novitec do a 272 which is as good as the C&B.

Also one of the best improvments comes from a bigger TB, again a few options available, you can go for a 36mm one that can be found on some citroens modify your own 38mm one or buy a tricker 40mm one, once you've done this tweak the fuel pressure up a bit and the engine will be transformed from where it is now

Thanks, how would i tweak the fuel pressure? Im looking for a spare TB to send to tricker

I've got a spare tb here...I think..pm me as this isn't a sales thread.
Look for the yellow blob at the front of the tb, clean the wax out, you'll find a star drive, tweak and drive, repeat until happy :). Leave alone until you've made a few changes.
My ecu and fuelling coped with, 421 manifold, tb tricker, gsr, MkCRITCH, 75cam, supersprint exhaust. Was still fuelling fine...until the hg went:eek: again ! Too much nitro :) oops.

having a reprofiled camshaft can certainly increase bhp,but few people mention that it can cause a lumpy idle and a dterioration in driveability.who, after all, wants to rev their puntos hard all the time.
i have always had a sispicion that fait know what theyre doing with their camshafts, and unless theres excessive wear due to oil starvation i wouldnt touch it.i only say this because you mention a friend recommended it rather than wanting to do it because you thought it a good idea

Thanks for your input johnswlondon. A mate of mine said that it might be a god idea looking into this mod, and i have looked at this and other punto forums and this seems to be a relatively safe mod. It seems to get rid of the flat spot which most mk1 puntos seem to have. I was hoping that this would help as it seems to have helped others.

An agressive cam can cause a lump idle but there are many different profiles that suit different applications, some are better suited to delivering power at high revs at the expense of tractability and some produce touque at low revs

All manufactures makes compromises when producing a car and Fiat is no different there are many components that can be changed when you don't have to consider mass production, cost drivers, running the car on crap fuel, neglecting maintainance, harsh environments etc

Thanks for the input allanhelen, would you recomend a 75 cam shaft in my car?

It will be better than the std one so go for it. It is quite a cheep mod especially if you can get away without re-shiming it. There are bags of people out there running Cento's with them fitted. iirc the later punto 60's had this cam fitted as std as one certain person further up the post found out ;)

If you want to splash out a bit more and get even more torque look out for a C&B 268 or a Novitec 272 they occasionally pop up in the classified and on ebay (new the C&B's are well over £200 retail). I also think GSR might do a nice torquey cam, don't know what they cost though. these options are better than the 75 cam but are a lot more expensive.
