Hi guys.

I'm buying a Fiat Punto mk1 85 16v Sporting, and I'm told by the seller that the power steering is gone and it needs a new pump (a mechanic has looked at it).

Do you how much a pump is and where to buy it? Would it be wise to get if of scrap?

Cheers.

I always recommend new parts even if on an older car. There is no guarantee of used stuff despite some tempting prices. You may go to a lot of effort to replace it and then it pack up in another few months.

Removal is not too difficult.

Thank you for the replies guys.. I'm gonna buy it from new and have a friend of mine replace it with the broken one. So I'm saving the mechanic cost.. I'm probably gonna buy it from the UK as it's cheaper.. Do you have any sites or links? Cheers

in all my time i have never heard of a mk1 power steering pump going wrong, therefore i wouldnt bother paying for a new one when a second hand one will cost about £10-15 and probably outlast a non genuine new one.

my last sporting was on 140k, and my mates was on 130k and the pump was run completely dry when a hose blew, and we re-filled and it carried on working fine, so they are a strong pump compared to most.

How hard is it to get to the pump to see if there are any issues? And how hard is it to change it? Thx
