Heyy guys and gals..

Quick question... Why doesnt my 1998 mk1 sx60 have power steering? (n)

... Everyone elses seems too, just not mine :(

anyone know why?

how much would it cost to get it? lol

I dunno why yours dosent have it when others seem to have, - maybe yours was produced just before they started putting it in as standard

The cost/time/hassle would be too great to install power steering into a car that hasnt already got it, IMO sorry.

Thats fine mate :). Just wondering.

nah, its fairly simple to install, it you need....

steering rack, and column
mountings
hydro pump
a different auxilary bracket for the engine, AFAIK pas pump goes above the alternator, so you'll need the brackt, the pulley wheels + a new aux belt.
steering rack track rod ends.
and AFAIK front hubs are the same on all normal petrol fire models, so they can stay.

you could prob do it in a day. BUT WHY DO YOU WANT PAS? the car only weighs about 750kg, and the feedback on the manual ones is awesome!

Im just lazy i guess. haha. no, just a tad peeved off, that everyone elses 60 has it but not mine :(

just out of interest whats the difference in ease of steering and response with the power steering compared to the non PAS.weirdly me punto is easier to steer with the new wider alloys than it was with the steelies unless that something to do with the amount of air in them, but not being the standard wheel and 15" rims i dont knowwhat pressure they should be pumped to......

most of the bits are in classified :)

How much do you think i would be looking at for someone to fit it all for me tho? and for parts, if i went scrappy ?

Jay, I think the reason your steering feels easier is if you have had new tyres fitted. The deeper tread moves around and i've noticed makes the steering feel much lighter than with worn out tyres. :)

probs why then as the old onew were literall bald just the new ones are half agian wider or thereabout so i though it stange anywho not complaining!

wast of time attempting to fit powersteering on a mk1 1.1 or 1.2,understandable on the 1.6 or gt due to engine wegt but not on the small engine, just no need its not like it had to steer!

I want it tim because i thought everyone elses had it.. guess not. :) lol. i feel better now. haha :D

My 1994 SX75 has only manual steering and standard tyres, and it's a pig to manoeuver at low speed. So much so that I wonder if it's been assembled wrongly from new (only done about 25,000 mls). As heavy to steer as my 40-year old Land Rover.
