i have bits about it in other threads all over the forum, but some has missed them so best i do its own thread.

the other day i was driving down the M11 and lost forward gears.

turns out planetary gears in my gearbox have gone, don't know why because they only share the load, they do only 40% of the work to make car go forward. they are £600 new just for the part

the man who took my gearbox to box to bits has now found through his contacts a box that has only done 9k miles, so i having that

also as the box and engine was took out together, so as the engine is already out thought may as well put it all back together with a newer 1.4 stilo engine that has only done 25k miles, as it will be the same amount of work because of my engine already being out :slayer:

straight swap as both engines are 16v

getting worrid now, new engine supposed to be here today, but not arrived yet and it 20 to 5

im assuming the ECU, loom, etc will have to be swapped... and key barrels...

it should run ok with my ecu, be a vist with gsr to reddot soon after any way

i phoned bloke and they said courier picked up engine yesterday, so at least its on its way

Speak to your neighbours Dave, I am sure a new engine wont fit through your letterbox, so the couriers have probably left it with a neighbour or on your doorstep behind a plant pot My wife has lots of deliveries by a man with white liquid in bottles, he leaves some bottles on the doorstep and then goes in and says hello to my wife for 30 minutes to make sure she knows her bottles are there. Have you moved your white bottles to se if the engine is behind them?

not had white bottle man for years, didn't know they still existed

delivery definitely not been i left my mobile number on front door with a note just in case i didn't hear him knock.

some delivery blokes just cant be bothered to come out this far, and go back to depo and say could not find the place

Gearboxes won't have planetary gears. They are in the Diff. Thats blew up in mine and made quite a mess of ep80 and bits of razor sharp metal all over the road.

Erm.... in a front-wheel drive gearbox the diff is integral- inside the gearbox casing.

But anyway, Dave's not talking about the diff....

hes got the speedgear. hence an auto box. which yes does have planetary gears along with sun gears etc.

feel for you dave had a box go on me before. not a very nice feeling. but at elast this way if the engine comes you will be killing two birds with one stone. best of luck to you.
