Hello

Could someone give me some adivce on my Fiat punto s five door R reg.
I was driving on monday and i broke down as my car over heated this was becuase the core plug pop out ( near the water pump cambelt etc)
The rescue man put the old plug back in and towed me home. I have taken it to a garage and have had a new core plug put back in and so far so good.
I was just slighlty worried as i drive down to devon on saturday and im very nervous about it as i dont want things to go wrong and over heat the car again!!! Has this happen to any one else?

Many thanks

ive never seen this before, core plugs usually rust through the middle and leak that way.

uno 1.0ie RAAAWW!

welcome to the forum,
something has made the engine over heat, is the fan working? if its over heated once its most likely to happen again,
only time i've ever had a corplug pop out is on old iron head engines, then it was ice that made them come out,

Hi

I am new to the site. I too brokedown yesterday - apparently percy the punto overheated whilst I was on the M4 and I have today been told that it is the core plug :-( As the car overheated it lost power and the mechanic said that that is normal as the car had overheated but now it is not even starting :-( and being a girl I am told alsorts my mechanics and I am being told that they do not think the problem is with the battery as they put it on a booster (whatever that is) and it still did not start so they are going to replace my starter motor ????? Has anyone else had this?? It is an R reg 1.2 3 door my little baby, so any advice would be excellent.

Thanks
Tracy :)

I think you cursed me haha yeah apparently the head gasket has gone and they have also put a new starter motor in it. I have just got a private mechanic to pick it up for me as apparently you cant even drive it as the pressure in the water bit is a really high and the water shoots out the water tube thing like a fountain :-(

This is not good. Just weird that the garage is now saying the head gasket has gone as i had 3 mechanics look at it who all thought the head gasket had not gone!!!

Any ideas??? is this normal???

On days like this i wish i was a man! ha

i have recently bought a 1995 punto 55s 1.1 and for a week its been a pretty good little runner but i got a lot of steam and it cut out the other day but fired up fine once it had cooled down it hasnt blown the head gasket or done any serious damage as far as i can see the but when it has had a little drive and warmed up there is steam coming out of what looks lke a core plug hole above the oil filter. Is this a core plug location? if not what could it be?
