Can anybody give me some correct info here ??

I'm considering the "best" way to overcome my current "1 blue key only" situation on my daughters Punto 60S; I've contacted a couple of website suppliers :-

• Codeman (Sheffield) whom claim if you send back the working key they can re-programme the ECU & code box and supply 3 new keys (1 red master + 2 blue); alternatively

• Peacock & Purvey (Deryshire) whom sell decoded "free running" ECU's that enables "non coded keys" to be used

I'm a little wary of both the above to spend £200 or so only for either not to work

I understand that with my current "1 blue key only" if we (for instance) get a flat battery the ECU looses it's code and awaits the red key to "unlock" ?? Of course we don't have a red key so this is a problem

To add a little further complication, the main ignition switch barrel itself is a "little problematic"; the sole blue key we have is a bit difficult to get in as though either the barrel or key are slightly worn

What has triggered this query is that after (obviously wrongly) having a standard £5.00 key cut at my local market and finding out this wouldn't turn the ignition (immobiliser lock lamp on dashboard illuminated) the ignition will turn okay maybe every 10 attempts but then "lock" with the immobiliser for maybe 4 or 5 attempts

Trust somebody can shed some useful light on this one

is it possible on a Mk 1 Punto to change the ignition switch with a new unit c/w 1 x red master & 2 x slave blue keys, then to re-programme the existing ECU to read the new keys ??

There is a procedure on the www.codeman.org website advising how to "store" key codes by inserting red key, then blue key, etc but it isn't clear if this procedure will work with new keys / ignition lock and an existing ECU

Thanks

if I buy this chip, can I then also replace the ignition lock itself with a new unit (c/w ALL keys, red + blue) without any additional work other than fitting the chip & locks ??

sorry to sound thick but I confess not to understand the "technology" of the Fiat system too well

thanks for this info (and patience with a Forum novice ..... !!)

I had an email from Mick Crich and this appears the most practical (and least cost) way forward

one final question (I promise) all this trouble seemed to start when I (unbeknowlingly) used a £5 "market" cut key to try to start the car (obviously at this time not knowing the quirky red key / blue key system)

this appears to be the reason why the system was "upset" in the first place and now say 1 or 2 times in every 10 the immobiliser will kick in
