Hi,
I've been having an irritating problem with my 2004 Mk2 1.2 8v punto.
If i rev the engine in whilst its in neutral or with the clutch pedal pressed down it's fine no dodgy noises at all.
BUT when in reverse, 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear mainly when i'm driving it makes a horrible rattling noise and it's really loud and gets worse when having to accelerate quickly like onto a bypass/motorway ect. It's got to the point i try to avoid driving it because its that loud people in the street turn around to see what the noise is.
History of my car since i bought it:
It had 76k on the clock when i bought it, around 77k i notice a slight rattling nose in 1st and 2nd gear but it was really faint.
Then when it reached 78k it got abit louder then the clutch started slipping so i had a new clutch fitted including the bearing.
It was fine until 79k then it felt like the clutch was slipping again and the noise came back but abit louder than before, obviously i knew it can't be a worn clutch this time and started to think it was a problem with the gearbox, I asked a friend who is a mechanic and he said it'll be the gearbox, so i bought a new one (when i say new i mean 2nd hand with 60k on it)
I've not got round to fitting the gearbox yet as i haven't had the time, but it's
now just reached 80k on the clock and its really bad, the clutch feels like its slipping really bad mainly only on roads that have steep or progressive inclines,
the whole car shakes and judders when you set off in 1st gear, and the overall noise in reverse, 1st, 2nd and 3rd is so loud now it's really embarrassing, i only drive my car now if i'm desperate.
Is it a bearing problem as i've heard bad bearings can make it leak oil onto the clutch hence the clutch isn't gripping causing it to feel like a worn clutch.
The garage that fitted my new clutch said they changed to bearing but i'm starting to think they lied to me.
Looking back now i wish i had changed it myself :/
Regards
