Hi guys,

Just been travelling down motorway at about 70mph and ALL the lights on my dashboard came on, literally everything. I panicked and pulled over on hard shoulder but then the on the dashboard went lights went off , apart from to say i had my headlights on and handbrake on - engine did not stop. Continued to travel at 60mph for next two hours and the lights did not come on again. Never been so scared in my life! has this ever happened to anyone? and any suggestions about what to do!!!!:(:(

Wow. That sounds very scary indeed. Im not a whiz-kid at this or anything but my theory is that its a wiring fault. I would take it to your nearest garage as soon as possible. Or look in the Haynes manual ;)

Hello mate,

Did all of the dials (ie Speedo, rpm, fuel, coolant temperature) all go up to max and then back down again by any chance?

Im also assuming from your post that its been fine since? and that you did actually have your headlights and parking break on at the time(when you say those specific lights remained on)?

Did the time and trip computer re-set?

Also, did you notice any loss of engine power? Ie is it possible the engine cut out?

Its not uncommon for a loose or corroded earth to cause the dash to re-set itself mid journey. If its only done it the once, I wouldnt be overly concerned just yet, but it wouldnt hurt for a a fiat dealer to check it out for you.

sorry to hijack the thread but a1ant you mention all the dials going to max. I was starting my car on monday (it hadnt been used for a week so the battery was a little low with the cold weather were having) my car was turning over slowly trying to start and i noticed my fuel guage and coolant guage go to max. So i turned the key off and tried it again and it started fine (if a little slow but put this down to not using the car)

So does this mean my car has a bad earth somewhere? the trip and clock didnt reset or is it just because the battery was working hard trying to start the car?

Hi thanks for replying.
None of the dials, speedo etc changed and yes so far it has been okay. Headlights and handbrake where on so them lights were okay to be on. The time did reset but unsure about the trip computer. No power was lost and the engine didn't cut out, was very scared so just slammed on brakes on hard shoulder presuming my car was about to explode! but everything seemed mechanically, okay.

The car has been checked out by a mechanic and he can find nothing wrong with it. This morning though (after the freezing temps last night) the clock reset itself again back to 0:00 - just wish I could find the problem cause don't want to panic like that ever again! Please help if you can! :worship::worship::worship:

Exactly the same thing happened to me about a year ago. All the lights came on, all the dials maxed out, the time and trip computer didnt reset. The dealer checked the error logs the next day and there wasnt anything in there. Its never happened again.

What I can put it down to is that I was accelerating the car was changing gears and the wife happened to switch the Air Con on at the same time. One of those things I guess, but it was scary.
