I had my 2004 Punto MOT'd recently and was told that I have 40% wear left on my front brake pads. Please could someone advise me how low I can let that percentage get before it would be best to get the pads changed?

How many miles have they done? You are looking at less than half that again...

IMO brake pads should be changed before they are "needed". Efficiency falls before they wear out and there is always the danger they will be forgotten or something crops up when you plan to change them.

Just bought a Seat Ibiza for my youngest, there is approx half life left on the pads. I changed the oil and filter as a precaution straight away, discs, pads and brake fluid change next job in the next 2 weeks for sure.
