Hi all
Had a oil leak checked out today, and it looks like I'm going to need a new cam shaft seal. I know they can be picked up pretty cheap, but I was wondering how difficult are they to fit? What's involved? The most I've ever done before is installing a tricker tb, will this be easy in comparison?

Thought I might do it myself and save me some £££, but I'd like to know a bit on how it's done.

Any help appreciated
Cheers
Matt

Shouldnt be to difficult but due to it being the cam seal i would be very careful especially when it comes to the timg belt e.t.c, you will probably have to remove the timing belt in which case i would suggest doing the timing belt and tensioner at the same time if you do attempt this yourself, make sure you mark all your pulleys e.t.c properly before you strip anything. Do a search on the cambelt replacement and im sure you will come up with a few threads explaining what to do. (y)

cam belt can be done by an amateur thats never done it before in 2.5hrs max.

as for removing the cam. you won't have to remove the camshaft itself from the engine, leave it in place. however you will have to remove cam cover to make it easier.
I simply used some fancy mole grips (like mole grips, but not) to grab hold of the cam pulley and jam it against the cam gasket seating area. then you can undo the cam pulley bolt fairly easily with a fair sized wrench (might need a torque wrench sized lever).
then pop out the old gasket with a flat screwdriver (chances are its already fell out/dissolved) clean up the seating area, then spread some good quality build grease OR fresh engine oil around it and push new one in the hole TIGHT
reverse position of mole grip device on pulley, reinstall puley and tighten up fairly tight! (NO GREASE).

then do your cam belt refit
