Hi,

Unfortunately one of the front shock asbsorbers on my punto mk1 has gone, so I have decided to give it a go and see if I can change them myself.

I have had a look in the various forums and the haynes manual and I am pretty sure of what needs to be done.

I do have one question though that I was hoping someone could help me with...

It seems that in most threads (and the haynes manual) you are instructed to remove the strut first and then using a vice to hold the strut remove the nut that holds the spring cover in place.

As I don't have a vice, I was wondering if it would be possible to at least loosen the nut while the strut is still in place and then remove it. Following that the sping clamps could be put in place and the nut removed completely with the minimum of effort.

Do you think this is possible/advisable?

The reverse would also apply when refitting the strut.

I hope the above make sense..

thanks

Yep, the two bolts that go through the bottom of the shock and hub are always stuck, don't round them off just take it to a garage and get there windy gun on it (offer them a tenner(y) ).

Yeah, I've recently had the pleasure of having one changed, and those two bolts are a nightmare, had to hammer them out and buy new ones
