hi all, some fu**ing idiot must of hit the back of my car and drove off in a car park at weekend

damage not too bad, i got the scuffs out with tcut but the paint has stretched and there is lots of faint crack lines on the top flat of the rear bumper. i now have a dilema, do i leave it or do i get the whole thing sprayed?

im very warey of it done as i think you will be able to tell it has been sprayed, because i recently had some rubbing strips sprayed and put on and you can see the slight difference.

what does any one think?

Should be able to get it sprayed properly, its a new car so the paint shouldn't have had time to fade/change yet, as far as i'm aware as long as u use a decent place & that uses an oven, should be fine.

When I ran into a fox back in July I cracked the front bumper. My colour is Easy Listening White - which is metallic. I was very worried it wouldn't match after repairs.

The insurance inspector took a look before repairs, and warned me that the match might not be perfect due to different types of paint having to be used on the plastic bumper versus the metal bodywork.

He also pointed out that both front and rear bumpers already had a slightly different shade to the body from manufacture! I hadn't noticed but once pointed out it was obvious!

Anyway after a new bumper and respray, the colour match was perfect - to match the back bumper. ie as it was before. Couldn't have been happier.

Unfortunately a month later I hit a rabbit which left lots of faint cracks on the front bumper. The body repair shop advised replacing the front bumper again rather than just a respray. They said because the plastic had been stressed the cracks could suddenly re-appear any time the bumper was slightly flexed.

It was replaced and resprayed again - once again a perfect job.

I now stay well clear of animals!

My advice would be to go ahead and get it done. Go to your local Fiat dealer and see if the have a body repair shop they use and can recommend. Thats what I did after my insurers tried to send me to some dodgy one!

lol

I borrowed a Panda for a week and saw no wildlife at all, yet as soon as I get my Punto back and it all comes running, leaping, jumping, and flying out of the hedgerows at me.

but.... a few weeks ago i had side rubbing strips put on by fiat at their recomended body shop and i can definately see the colour difference.

I might leave it for now and if it gets any worse i'l get it done

i'l put some pics on soon

I guess the rubbing strips are plastic so there will be some slight colour difference. I have rubbing strips on mine but ordered the black ones rather than body colour as I thought the paint would just start flaking off as soon as there was any actual rubbing! I prefer the look of the body colour ones though.

It's tricky - I guess I was lucky with the body shop that was recommended to me. Twice in a row they did a perfect job - and I'm very picky..

Are you claiming through your insurer?
