Hi

Has anyone achieved a fair MPG on the twin air Panda?

Also what are the service cost likely to be. I understand the service intervals are 18,000 miles as I only do about 6,000 a year would this mean I could go three years or do I have to get it serviced each year even if my mielage is low?

I have a Prius at present which is cheap to run but quite boring.

Just wondering if I am doing the right thing in thinking of changing it for a TA Panda.

You would need a low mileage service which I think is just an oil change.

As for fuel consumption on the TA, I'm averaging what it says on the sig below in my 500. I borrowed a brand new 20 mile old panda 1.2 the other week. It did very similar mpg to my 500 TA during my 50 mile daily work route.
I would think the panda would be very similar.

I think that the twinair can give very similar mpg to a 1.2 on the open road, but if you are mostly town driving then the twinair will use quite a bit more fuel.
I reckon 40mpg for ta and the 1.2 closer to 50.

Try both motors and see what you think. Personally the motor in my 500 is the best bit about it. I love everything about it, the sound, the midrange grunt, and the mpg when you drive it Eco style.

Hi Derek,

Unless I am completely mistaken, I am pretty sure everyone on here will agree you have made the right choice to move from your Prius to a TwinAir Panda!(y)

What deeyup says though is bang on; I don't know what stage you are at in terms of ordering a new car, but I'd also recommend trying both the 1.2 and TwinAir and see what you think. They are completely different characters but both are terrific to drive (or at least that's what I've heard about the TwinAir anyway!).

As for servicing, ultimately I think it's better for the long-term health of the car if you get it done once a year, even if the mileage doesn't tally up. A low mileage service (i.e. oil and filter change) shouldn't cost any more than around £100-120 from a main dealer, but no-one knows exactly what the prices are yet as it is of course a new model. I can't imagine it'll be much more than that.

You could probably get away with something similar again in year 2 (assuming you only do 6k mileage again), but the brake fluid needs replacing every two years so that will need doing. All in all, you'd probably do well to get a "full" 18k service in year two which will include the spark plugs as well - this should probably cost between £150-170 all in.

I have a TA with just over 3,000 miles on since September. I drive it in a "Spirited" manner over mixed conditions and last couple of tanks have be at the low 40's mpg. For the performance and fun available i find this very acceptable. If I adopt my "Adult" persona the 50 mpg is achievable.

Geoff.

I wouldn't change Prius for Panda solely for the drivetrain. Twinair is, well, just 2-cylinder petrol engine with standard gearbox and turbo. You can't really compare it to HSD in terms of simplicity and refinement.
Also Twinair real-world economy is standard for small modern petrol engine. That's being 45-50. What is non-standard is only Fiat claims about it. Real world Prius driving won't give you twice more, but still it will be noticeable enough, and that for much more space in the car (depends if you think its useful thing or not).
Service intervals are yearly or mileage, what comes first. If you don't get many miles per year, you still should do at least one service per year.
