Hi everybody, my panda 1.1 selecta is occasionally making a thud noise before taking up drive, so i think i will soon have to think about replacement (of the gearbox, not the car), so i was wondering if its possible to take out the CVT, and put in a 5 speed manual gearbox, and would a gearbox out of a 89 1000S fit. How big a job is it to do, and do you need any special tools. Many thanks in advance :)

I have seen posts on here from one or two people who have had the conversion done ( the "advanced" search on the Forum is very useful..), but I haven't been involved with one myself.

The following is "As I understand it":

the electrical work required might be interesting - look at the back most diagram in Haynes.

Mechanically the 'box from a "FIRE" engined version will fit, but it will need to be a good one, as you have a bit more BHP available.

You'll need some of the interior trim, gear lever and linkage, lower and upper transmission mounting arms, the driveshafts, speedo cable, and maybe even the speedo too....

best of luck
