I'm looking at buying some lancia montecarlo retro-fabulous alloy wheels for my prospective panda, they have an offset of +25 and are 5.5j, would I get away with 10mm spacers, or would that stick out of the arches too much?
(I think I read somewhere standard panda Et= +35)

Also theyt currently have 185/70/13 tyres, these will be too wide won't they? They look wide and chunky on the rims at least.

If Pandas have 13" wheels as standard, what tyre size do they have/is best?

Hi,

I think you'll find that because the offset is lower than the standard for the Panda then you won't need spacers at all rather that the wheels will come out further from the chassis than the Panda ones. I've just acquired a set of old X 1/9 alloys and the situation is the same (offset 27 I think). It will mean that wide tyres will give you a problem with them protuding beyond the arches, something which I understand to be an MOT failure (as I've read on other posts). The wheels should fit though, but you'll probably need much slimmer tyres than those on there. I'm going to go for 155s for mine because a 165 on one of the wheels that I offered up is already sticking out a little further than desirable.

There will be others with more experience with alloys tha me but I think this is your situation as I understand it.

Oh, I understood it as the larger the (positive) offset, the further from the hub the wheels protrude? So a smaller offset would be closer to the hub?

Haha I just thought about it and offset is the distance from the midline of the rim to the mounting face of the rim, so a smaller positive offset would mean the mounting face is closer to the midline of the rim (rather than closer to the outside edge of the rim) so the outer edge of the rim is pushed further away from the hub, protruding from the arch.
Got it, damned revision is taking up all of my brain space atm.

Sounds about right! Original (2x4) Panda tyres were skinny 135 R13s and the official option was 155/65 13. As long as you don't stray too far away from the rolling radius you can try a different tyre but I think you may have issues if you go for anything too wide for the reasons above. One problem might be that a 155 tyre will be a bit on the narrow side for a 5.5" wheel.

Hmm, does anyone know the narrowist tyre width you can fit onto a 5.5J rim? Mathematically, a 140/145 would be the narrowist, but may not be practically!
(5.5" = 137.5mm)

Hi Tom,

First off, the tyres you're looking at will not fit without alot of wheel arch bashing and jiggling around with spacer size. I like to fit alloys to my Pandas and have found that not every wheel with a 98mm pcd will bolt straight on.

165/65R13's will fit nicely if the offset of the wheel you're fitting is close to Panda original. If you're coming over to see me soon I can show you a few options and go into more detail.

Yea, I didn't expect the tyres to fit, was hoping the alloys would though and put some nice new tyres on them, 165/65/13 or 155/70/13 were what i'd planned on.

According to that fab website Bougainvillea Rosso gave, the current tyres on the alloys would be 10mm closer to the suspension and 20mm further out (compared to 155/70/13s), so there would be issues there! And it would mess up the speedo readings, right?

Will ring you later Vernon if you're around? I'm keen to come and see this Panda of yours!
