If you've read the Sparky/mot thread you will already know that Luke P has decided to cut his losses and let Sparky go. I was going to supply Luke with a s/absorber at the weekend so when I saw a text message from him I thought it was going to say he was on his way to collect it, never in a million years did I expect it to be asking me if I wanted another spares car .
The amount of work needed for the mot, plus the need for a bigger car had brought Luke to this sad decision, but fortunately, events the previous week had meant it was still game on (y).

You see, about a week ago, I had been approached by a young girl ( STOP IT!! ) and asked if I could find her a Panda and do some of the things to it that she had seen on Charmania. She had been watching progress with interest as she worked in a unit next to my lockup, and as Charmania progressed, Lucy had gone from constantly taking the mick about my Pandas to actually wanting one, I felt like Gregory Peck in the film 12 angry men (ask your Grandad if you haven't seen it).

Her ideal spec. was that it should be blue like my CLX, have a good sterio (Lucy's 17) with those cool speakers either end of the dash :p, have sporty seats like Charmania, pedals, like Charmania, steering wheel, Like Charmania, you get the picture (y).
I told her, all the mods I can do, but to find one that colour will not be easy, she'd better give me a couple of alternatives if she doesn't want to wait six months.

Well, fast forward to last weekend and look what happens!

First step is to get the mot so that she can use it, Lucy is still a learner driver at the moment, then we'll tackle the mods as and when she can afford them. Lucy's Mum has paid for the first stage as an early Birthday/Christmas present and is just as keen as Lucy to get behind the wheel, even though she drives a relatively new Golf GTI herself.

I don't think either of them will be interested in the Forum, yes there are strange people out there, so I'll keep the updates coming on this one, for Luke P's benefit at least.

Sparky is currently living up to his name while my mate does the welding, after that I need to finish the other jobs and try and get it back for a re test, oooh! deja vu. ;)

Judging by the growing list of your cars it reminds of a time when Kev (Purple Haze) started on the forum with his cars.
I suggested that as his chauffeur business was slow he should start restoring Pandas.
I think you are taking this to a whole new ball game.

Haha, it is looking that way Dave, and to be honest I quite like the idea. (y)

Hope it goes well; to be honest the welding was the only sticking point for me as we couldn't get the car high enough to reach:(... The rest of it seemed to be ok except for the shock and the other minor bits... I'm looking to following the progress and I might just have to pop round for a visit when Sparky is as sparkling as I'm sure you'll get it.

All the best, Luke. (y)

You know you're welcome anytime. (y)

I'm going to get Lucy to help with the cleaning, might as well start as we mean to go on.

Still a good idea dave...although i just got back after a 3000 trip to drop off americans in madrid and then onto faro portugal to collect someone!!..all coz of the flight probs...so the business is still there....Just!!

Well Sparky is finally back from being welded. My mate said it needed quite a bit more than the last two he did for me, that was his excuse anyway.
Luke P wanted to have his Uno turbo alloys back, so in order to make it presentable in a very short space of time for when Lucy first saw it I had to fit a spare set of wheels I had, along with some naff trims, as a result this is what Sparky now looks like......

Hopefully I can change the o/s shock absorber and c/v boot in time fo a Wednesday Re-test.

Hope the re-test went ok... I just noticed the pass for my work car-park in the windscreen in the photo!!! Could you save it for me;)...

I've got my new acquisition booked for an MOT on friday; picking it up tomorrow (unfortunately not a panda but hopefully I won't have to wait too long!!)... more nervous than I was with Sparky...

Glad the welding went ok; it looked like a bastard of a job:eek:

Anyway, I'll be in touch about convoy arrangements for Saturday.

All the best, Luke.

Hi Luke,

My Mate who did the welding was not amused, he said he'd done about £200's worth of work to sort it, but as it was for Lucy via me, it came to much less :).
I changed the shock absorber today as I needed the old one for the spares car. My other Mate who lets me use his workshop sometimes needed me out for a couple of days, so instead of working on Sparky I had to get Charmania and the spares car mobile. Therefore, I still have the c/v boot, horn and washers to do, so no re-test yet :(. I think Sparky's going to have to wait till next week when I can have a good run on it.

Look forward to seeing what you've bought, I assume it's coming along on Saturday, mot permitting?

Horn is easy but just go easy prizing the horn button off the wheel... there are a couple of catches and it is a case of tucking a flat screwdriver under the grey bit and pushing the catches one by one (as far as I remember; it went on about 18 months ago). The problem will most likley be corroded contacts; it was before! (I'm sure you're aware of this already!;))

MOT allowing I think we will be coming in the new one in spite of the fact that it's a whole lot scruffier than my Mums MK2 Punto that I've been borrowing... Nic and Sam are coming too so I hope we can get tickets for Nic on the door...

Keep up the good work!! (y)

Thanks for the horn info. (y)

My son's coming without a ticket too, are you going on the Forum stand or in the carpark?
By the way, I'm planning to leave at about 5.30am to make sure we can meet up with the others at the alotted 7.30am, how does that sound?

Ooh, not too sure about that; I'd have to think about it...:tempt:

Well I've thought long and hard and the answer is YES... with bells on!!:D

You going to the camping mission? If so and I haven't got a running Panda by then then you're on... just let me know in any other case and I'll be there.

Cheers!! Luke. (y)
