so, I'll let you in on my latest dirty secret as so far I am well chuffed with how it's turning out. I do rather like having the front airdam on the car, but I'm getting a bit bored with the rather Heath Robinson look to the front of the car now:

so, I thought I'd start over with a spare front bumper and tidy it up. The thought process went: I still want a chin spoiler on here so what can I do.. Early golfs had a pretty flat front and a seperate black plastic spoiler on some models:chin:
so I've taken a punt on a Mk2 golf chin. Figured I'd probably have to shorten it a bit but I've started to attach it to the bumper tonight and frankly been amazed. Apologies for the quality of the pics, my phone doesn't like the dim garage:

width is absolutely spot on, haven't trimmed it at all yet. Better still:

they curve about right at the corners, reach right to the front wheelarch and even have a cutout to accomodate the flare in the bumper at the front of the arch.
Well pleased so far:) the only thing interfering with the fit at the moment is actually a slight deformation in the old bumper where it's taken a knock at some point.
Andrew.

looks good. will this be on the one on the car, or the spare one?
I'm working with a spare now which will replace the one currently on the car. The one on the car at the moment has huge holes for the spots and holes drilled all along the front for the current front spoiler so isn't much good for a facelift.
Andrew.

nothing new yet, probably fitting it midweek, just trying to figure out what to do with the spots, do I cut holes in my 'new' bumper too:chin: (a bit more neatly though) or keep it intact but a bit dull for my liking. oh the dilemmas.
will post up some better pics of the fit so far later today, last lot were pretty fuzzy.
Andrew.

right, facelift's done. some better pics of the spoiler fit first:

just bolted along lower lip. Ends..

not the most elegant solution but the lip runs out towards the back edge.

so I ended up with a small overlap on the outside.
overall though:

happy with the result.
Andrew.

the bumber looks like it sticks out loads. looks good though. something different
I have taken the photo from a particularly unflattering angle to show how it sits. I'll probably finish up drilling through to tighten it up, but as it stands I've not done anything to the bumper which is visible if I take the spoiler off later, hence the tie wrap arrangement. I'll run with it as is and see how it goes.
