I took the head off my fire engine at the weekend to replace an exhaust valve that burnt out and changed valve stem seals

But I'm sure that the ring has let go badly marking up the bore.

Does any one know of a spare short engine second hand

What is the engine code for a 1987 999fire engine

My July '88 owners handbook states engine code for 999cc FIRE engine in the 2WD's as 156A2.000. Don't know whether the 87 one will be the same though. There's some mention in the ebay items thread of two versions of the FIRE floating around in 1987 one would run happily on both 4star leaded fuel and unleaded and another group that were 4star only. Wonder if yours was a leaded fuel only 1? Hence the burnt out valve? Check your vin plate drivers inner wing and look at where it says "MOTORE-ENGINE" Code after that is the engine code. Personally I would keep and eye out for 156A3.000 as this is the 4x4 engine with better camshaft and puts out 50bhp as opposed to 45bhp also is unleaded friendly:D

thanks for the info
iv only found a 750 engine so far i might get this one for the time being to get me out of trouble if its a good price.
as this is a fire engine it should fit i hope.
the valve burnt out due to broken piston ring and excessive oil in the bore.

i was thinking of rebuilding the engine but after i removed the head i found the affected bore to be very badly scored by the broken ring.

and not cost effective to re-bore and rebuild with oversize pistons
