Hi all

Weird problem on my wife’s palio 1600 (1.6 EL)

While driving the car suddenly looses power , and when depressing the accelerator the car lurches and splutters , and then totally dies

The car is then totally fuel starved... Turns over but wont start

Leaving the car for around 20-30 mins solves the problem and you can start it up and it runs as normal

The last time it happened ( actually today) i tried starting it ever five minutes and the problem steadily gets better , from NO start to just managing to splutter and miss , to idle and die when pushing the accelerator to eventually normal idle and run

to me it seems like a fuel starvation issue linked to HEAT ?? as cooling the engine seems to help ( 20 to 30 mins)

We have had the car now for almost 5 years and during this time the problem has occurred around 5 times always with the same symptom and resolution , I cant force it to happen , it seems to have a mind of its own

Any ideas?? I have had a Fiat dealer give it the once over ... to no avail and they could NOT replicate problem

i had the same problem in my old car too and in most fiat cars this is a faulty crankshaft sensor, just get that changed for another one which isn't expensive at all and the car will run normally hopefully

Great tip , Now can anyone tell me where this sensor is located ? do i have to remove any covers ?

Cheers

Greg

Does the Fuel injector lamp come on when you experience this sudden loss of power? If yes, then it should in all probability be your ignition coil. I own a Palio 1.6 as well and just replaced the ignition coil a couple of days back.I was facing similar issues - the car loses power and the injector lamp comes on. After the car cools off, it starts driving normally again.

i have done several things and i have yet to see if it helps

1) replaced fuel filter
2) replaced spark plugs
3) replaced Coil pack

will see if it helps and keep posted ..
