Dear All,

Wifey and me have worn down the old Ford Focus 1.4 in just under 5 years...we ran it from 105k to 205k.
Now we found a nice '99 Palio 100 1.6 16v Weekend with 165k on it.
Seller is gone apk/mot it, will be ready end of this week :)
While doing a test run the brake-light flashed now and again, and key code burned constantly.
Engine ran smooth and strong at low and mid rpm, feels good.
May need adjusting wheel flight/camber by a pro, steering wheel doesn't return to center by itself.
Underside of car looks ok.
Hopefully the Palio will carry us for a few good years :)

Grtz, PymerOne.

Welcome to the Forum, landgenoot...!

Remember to check the last cambelt change, because it should be done after 3 years or 60.000 km, whatever comes first!
I've been driving our 2000 Palio Weekend 1,6-16V for exactly 10 years now, done most of the maintenance myself, so if you have any questions....!!

Thank you Peter :)

I will check the cambelt-"expiring date/mileage".
At this moment i am hunting for a manual/user guide.
Tomorrow i can visit shops for oil and brakefluid, and i don't yet know what this car needs :(

PymerOne,
Pim.

A manual is available at any Fiat dealer, ( or, sometimes, Ebay).
Any DOT 4 brake fluid will be fine.
ePER on top of this page is also very useful.

As for the engine oil, the FIAT 1,6-16V DOHC engine uses hydraulic valve adjusters, and they need top quality oil.
I use synthetic Castrol Edge 0W40 ( www.deolieshop.nl), together with a quality Bosch oilfilter.
The Palio has a fuel filter under the car, next to the fuel tank, it is a hard job to change though, but it needs to be done about every 30.000km....

Dear Peter,

Thnxx for info :)
This Eper is awesome!!!
I also found Indian manual in the download section, super :)
On my quest for problems&solutions i found someone mentioned the palio has problems with the fillrate at the modern petrol station...is there mods to be done?
Today im gone visit seller to see if the palio is streetlegal yet and buy all sorts of presents for it :)
Wifey is kinda worried it will be yet another tricked out racecar...in the fiats i had before is a 127 with custom exhaust, airfilter and carb, an genuine 127sport 1300 and a ritmo abarth (2 litre lancia engine in there...sensational).
Also, for compensation, a few bog standard 127's, pandas and a brava diesel.
Testriding the palio suggests to me its a strong workhorse, not really a skiddish racehorse.

Dear All,

Today the car was ready for active duty :)
I had an old carradio with me to check audio......which failed miserably.
Copilot's doorspeaker didnt sing or speak, it puked :(
Seller was kind enough to sweeten the deal with another set of speakers.
Bought oil (10w40 peter, 0w40 was advised against), oilfilter and airfilter.
Rode around for half an hour and wasnt happy with the way the car handled.
Rode another half hour to a carshop where wheelflight and camber gotten fixed, awesome improvement :)
Then i rode around for another half hour to my brother's house (he owns a 4stand carlift) to fiddle around with engine and speakers.
Yet another humongous improvement, both with and without music things sounded waaaay better :)
Some day soon i have to look into why the coins in the ashtray rattle so bad....might just be that one of the wheels isnt 100% round anymore.
Anyways, im quite happy with the car.

PymerOne,
Pim.

Yeah, the access to the fueltank is quite troublesome :(
I did manage to fill the tank by using the "squise-click-letoff-retry" technique.
Guess wifey will make me go to the gasstation from now on...i will learn to live with that.

Pim.

Thnxx (CZ)enda :)
Although my country is overrun with polish people looking for work, i have not yet been polite enough to learn to speak/read their language :(
LOL most polish people here work in constructions, farming or some such physically heavy job, but even in my work (computer/user support) i meet polish coworkers :)
Sofar i have been sufficiently informed by the india manual (which is written in english by the way).
Thanx anyway for helping :)

Dang (CZ)enda, awesome document!!

I do not speak Polish, too, but I believe the document is easy to understand (I remember I had to use Swedish electrical diagrams for my Citroen, and I openly admit my knowledge of Swedish is limited to Volvo, Saab, Ikea, Abba and Akvavit :D).

The graphical part is very probably straight copy/paste from original Fiat manual, the pictures look very mućh like those used in the original Punto/Brava/Marea 2500+ pages manuals I collected over time.

All Palios I have ever seen were made in Brasil (never saw one made in Poland) and I am sure there must be Palio repair/maintenance manual in Portuguese floating somewhere in the cyberspace, but I had no luck with its location yet.
