Hi Folks -

Recently I started getting these voices from the rear near the front wheels. The voices are similar to the voice that comes from a closing/ opening long time unused door that they show in a horror movie, if you get my point. The voice comes especially when I am turning my car to the full in the parking.

I started thinking that this could be because of lack of oiling and greasing, but the feedback that I got was that it is because the following parts are damaged. ( Struts, Shocks, Elastic Pad, Buffer Pad and Lower Arm ). Replacing all this is going to cost me a whopping 20K INR. Its simply difficult for me to trust this service guy (B.U.Bhandari, Pune) - I fail to understand that how can the suspensions of my car, which I bought just 2 years before and have driven mostly in cities, break down so early.

Any advice can really help, I feel somehow that I am being cheated and the suspensions cant die so soon.

I own a Fiat Palio 1.2 Sport, purchased 2 years back, driven at an average of 25 KMs daily. Please advice, its critical for me to understand so that I dont get cheated.

Thanks Folks

You need to apply grease/lubrication to the suspension parts that are noisy. This should solve your problem with very little expense.

Another cause could be the brake pads that are worn down and you now have a metal on metal sound?

How do I ensure that its not really a suspension problem and just has to do with oiling and greasing?

There are 2 things that i notice currently
1) while turning from the parking ... a sound like an old unused door opening (from rear of front)
2) bumps a bit more on speed breakers ...

Any ideas what should be the symptons for a suspension problem. Can some local guy verify all this? I heard that the vehicle has to be lifted and the tyres have to be removed to see whats wrong with the suspension so dont know whether local guys can investigate?

help appreciated

You cant "ensure" it without checking first. You have to first start with the easy things and then move on to the hard things. If you replace the entire suspension, you will solve it but that is not the point. You say it sqeaks like a unused door? This would very likely just be lubrication issues.

The knocking sound you refer to may be your shock-absorbers needing replacement but that will not cause the sqeaking sounds you hear.

I advise taking the car to someone who would know how to grease the suspension properly and see if that cures it.

However, if you have plenty cash, take it to the agents... your choice :)

Hey ... thanks a lot ... it did not turn out to be a suspension problem ... but it seems that the lower arms have to be replaced ...

I did not drive too rough, the latest is that the suspensions are allright and the lower arms are damaged though ... that reduces the cost to 8k now :)
