Hi was wondering what is the cost in changing the timing belt on a Regata 85S? How long does the job take whats involved? how often does it need to be changed?

From memory the official interval is 36k miles (approx 58k km) or 3 years. I was always told 30k-35k miles. Might be a good idea to get the timing belt tensioner looked into at the same time.

Don't know the cost to be honest, my dad did the timing belt changes on my 131 so there was no labour charge. Timing belt was about $50 (for the twin cam engine) but this was in the late 90's. It should be cheaper than a late model Peugeot/Citroen, the procedure doesn't look as involved.

Any competant garage should be able to change the cam belt within an hour.

All that is required is a belt, which should cost you around £20. The tensioner is all steel and decent bearings so does not need replacing unless the existing bearing is very noisy.

No modern composit plastic tensioners/wheels on the good old Regata. No variable cam timing requiring special locking tools.

Total cost I would expect to be well under £100.
